Niggles: Ummm that way can and does break mods and considering a good number of games on here can use mods, that one reason not to have forced autoupdating.
I didn't talk about forced autoupdating. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be optional in the client (I hope it is), even though it is advisable to keep your game up to date at least with online multiplayer games. Niggles: And say Galaxy Client only offers autopatched games, why not just keep the gog downloader available for those as an OPTION?. Plenty of people want the standalone installers and manual patches to remain as they are..
Always possible, but it means having to maintain two different clients (more work for GOG), and maybe some new users would consider it confusing that GOG is offering different clients for getting the games. I am not the biggest fan of the GOG Downloader client though, after I found out that many of the GOG downloads that it had reported being ok, were actually corrupted. At this point bittorrent is the technology I trust the most making sure that I receive an uncorrupted download, no matter over what kind of crappy connection I download it, and whether I download it directly to an external USB hard drive.
So if I had it my way, GOG would offer the standalone installers with two methods:
- bittorrent
- http (as a backup method, when trying to download on a network or system where bittorrent isn't feasible or allowed)
The Galaxy client then would be the modern way to download, install and update your games.
