I sometimes feel the urge but I hardly ever give in to it, because I know it wouldn't be the same and I would soon get bored trying to replay a game I've already played through. I generally prefer to experience something new and yet unfamiliar to me, even if I loved the first playthrough. I'm mostly referring to games with storytelling elements, but games without those don't even manage to keep me interested for long on the first try most of the times. Occasionally I replay first halfs or beginnings though, if I never got past them and would like to give the game another chance after a longer break. Because sometimes I just started them at the wrong time, when I wasn't quite ready for them, and then the second attempt is much more successful and fun.

Because when I get in a Medieval mood, only Medieval II can satisfy.

I was a re-player. Then I met GOG.. Although currently I'm working my way in my backlog, I can't wait for the day when I'll replay all my favourite games & never care about new releases anymore. It's weird, but it's what I feel sometimes. These GOG sales will destroy us in the end. We are all doomed!

I am sure of the quality of the old game I played before.

I am not sure about the quality of the new game. And I have to learn new things about the game. While it is not a bad thing learning new things, but I hardly have enough time for that.

I find that when I want to step in a new game, I would need a long holiday because I don't like getting being very immerse in the game and have to pulled out due to real life. For older games I don't find pulling out to real life as troublesome as new ones.
Hey, that is kind of my excuse in buying games.

Playing an old favorite is like visiting an old friend.

There are plenty of exciting new people to meet, but sometimes you are just looking for comfort and reliability.

There are some I make a point of playing at least through once a year. Commandos, TR 1, Tiberium Sun.

funny, was just thinking on this as I replayed yet another old favorite forgoing my huge backlog of current never before played games. must say tho, that I save the replaying for games that I enjoyed incredibly 'back in the day' etc. I am amazed at how good they still are (with mods alot of times) compared to AAA releases from recent times. Is it that im jaded now? not sure. I do believe that alot of new games ditch fun gameplay in favor of graphics and whiz pow effects.

I say play what makes you happy, gives you the most entertainment value for your time, even if its replaying for the umpteenth time some old game.

Replaying a game for me is more about the kind of game it was maybe? Something about wizardry 6 keeps bringing me back moreso than 7. I'll play through both and fidget around in 8 then get myself thinking about 6 again, so I replay that about 1 or 2 times a year.

Aside from my heinous wizardry addiction, I replay some games back to back to see what a different choice would have done depending on if the game was 'good' enough to merit it. Sometimes I just read a walk-through to see if it is worth investing the time to replay the whole game just to see what changed. I just recently purchased a PS3 from a pawn shop just to see if console games 'grew up', and nah, none of that does it for me. I liked nintendo/super nintendo/sega games there was an 'innocence' to them, many lacking political motivations, and more about just kicking back and relaxing. I did get Sonic's Ultimate Sega Genesis collection, and got my Streets of Rage and Golden Axe on.

Wizardry, though, is probably the game I've replayed the most, most recently.

A game with pretty good replayability I did pick up for ps3 was Castlevania Harmony of Despair; but that's something best played online.

I'll tell you one game I know I'll play through again. Planescape: Torment. That was an amazing experience.

I find that I actually prefer playing games I am familar with than playing new games. For this reason, I replay games a lot, sometimes immediately after a previous playthrough. (There are times when I would repeatedly play through SaGa 1, which happens to be a short but fun game, despite (or perhaps because?) all the bugs in the battle system program.)

It is also for this reason that I don't mind spoilers and sometimes actively seek them out.

Why yes, I think I would like to replay VTMB... Just need to finish replaying Bioshock and C&C and Bard's Tale first.

And by the time I do, I might've forgotten all about VTMB.

I tend to replay games when I suddenly feel like it.
Bioshock was because I was reminded of it and thought "Was I really that upset with it last time, or just disappointed?"...as it's turning out it's still a mediocre shooter with a nice setting and boring gameplay. Forgot all about the fact that difficulty progression is done simply by increasing the already introduced enemies' health (2 years before Borderlands took that 'innovation' and rammed it into the ground). Impressively enough it still hasn't entirely deterred me from going to complete it.

I don't think I'll be replaying for quite a while sirs.

Hell I'm only 40% through my library. Probobly less now that I took part in that damn sale.
