The inclusion of electric guitar in the game's soundtrack can turn an otherwise decent game into one that I can't play. (If the game is otherwise really good, or if the electric guitar is used sparingly, the game might be playable within reason, but if it's constant or frequent, it can make the game one I can't play.)

tag+: I haven't played Loop Hero, La-Mulana and Zachtronics games. I will try them in the near future thanks to your opinion, except Higurashi: VNovels are not for me.
Worth noting that La-Mulana is really a platformer/adventure game hybrid; there are a lot of adventure game style puzzles in it, and they are often really difficult, to the point of sometimes being unreasonably so. In fact, it gets to the point where, for many of the game's puzzles, I found myself looking up the solution, using the solution, and then later working out what the clues leading to the solution are (and often I wouldn't have figured it out with the clues, but it's fun seeing how the clues are intended to lead to the solution).

From what I understand (and from what I watched of the kickstarter demo), La-Mulana 2 handles this better. There's still the heavy emphasis on adventure game elements, and the game still doesn't hold your hand, but at least it seems like it's reasonable to figure out how to progress from the clues the game gives you, whereas it often doesn't in La-Mulana 1.

(Yes, this is a case where GOG's use of the Adventure tag makes sense; the adventure game elements are just as present as they are in a game like King's Quest or any of the pure adventure games out there. (Of course, La-Mulana isn't a pure adventure game, but its emphasis on adventure game elements is rather intense compared to other games that look similar.)

Sounds in video games are much more important than graphic / graphic effects.

Breja: Yeah... I heard that before and I didn't agree with it that time either.

Darvond: Does my edit help? :B
Not even a little. It's the part about it being a shit game that I disagree with.

I don't have strange gaming opinions. All my opinions are well founded and sensible! ;-)
I dislike cartoonish graphics in games that are supposed to be 'serious' themed, particularly in WRPGs. I'm fine with manga-style cartoon graphics in JRPGs, but I strongly dislike the art style in games like Torchlight, Dungeon of Naheulbeuk. D:OS 1 was certainly riding the line a bit too close to cartoon for my liking. Oh yeah, Fortnite can take a jump into the nearest abandoned well, just before I fill it with cement >:D

This is also one reason I am repulsed by the recent GTA 'remasters' ... /vomit
I detest crafting. It is just boring, tedious busywork. If I wanted to do chores, I'd clean the windows or something, not play a game.
Corollary to my previous comment:

Final Fantasy 5 has many great traks in its soundtrack. That one big bridge theme is not one of them. (On the other hand, the remix found in Final Fantasy 12 is good.)

aCyborg: Achievements in games should be feasible to get with little to mild effort or by playing the game normally.

I hate it when games have basically impossible achievements or milestone ones.
avatar
Darvond: Or worse, multiplayer milestone achievements. Thanks to that, I'll never have an All-Clear trophy room of Need For Speed: Hot Fursuit (Criteron).
Yes but like Super meat boy complete game without dying or Crypt of the necro dancer all characture low% run and coda run

I presume you mean things along the lines of cel-shading. How do you feel about Wind Waker, though?

A good stereo mix and unique OST can help a lot of things. Heck, Secret of Mana is one of my favorite SNES games just for the music.

I really do like Secret of Mana's music. I especially like the track that plays in that one beautiful forest dungeon right near the end of the game (second to last dungeon).

I don't like the final dungeon music, however.

(Incidentally, I also don't like how, in the later part of the game, you can't return to previous dungeons, which could be a problem if the player needs to level up or earn money in order to survive the following dungeon. I note that that forest dungeon I mentioned happens to be a big spike in enemy strength; if you don't have the equipment available at a shop where the previous dungeon was (the dungeon is no longer accessible, but this particular shop just became accessible), the enemies will do way too much damage.)

By the way, I heard the remake version of that track I love, and I don't like it as much; violin just doesn't seem like the best instrument for the melody there. (I'm thinking flute would work better here.)

Zelda games like Wind Waker or Breath of the Wild I am ok with. Because firstly, they are aimed primarily at kids (like most Nintendo games) and are not supposed to be 'serious'. Secondly, they are Japanese games and the art style probably derives somewhat from the manga style, in a similar way to JRPGs.

My beef is more with cartoonish graphics in games that are supposed to be somewhat serious, or genres that are traditionally serious. Fortnite is a prime offender, because it is clearly a multiplayer FPS with guns, so it is wrong for it to have cartoonish graphics. WRPGs are also a no-no for cartoons, because imo WRPGs are supposed to be darker, more gritty and more realistic than JRPGs. So, it is wrong for them to be depicted with cartoon graphics. If I want a cartoonish RPG, I'll go and play a JRPG.

Essentially, the Japanese are the only nation that have my permission to make cartoony RPGs ;-)

Well, the thread asked for 'strangest opinions' ... *shrug*
Aesthetics are more important than substance.

I'm glad this opinion is catching on. More and more people are joining us in this one that, soon, we might be able to enjoy games without that "feature". (That's usually added when the game is in its box-checking phase.)

This is just a symptom of games copying other games, that copied other games, that copied other games without real innovation.
I, too, don't enjoy crafting much, but, weirdly, I enjoy Terraria a lot for it's exploration and sanboxed environment.

Time4Tea: -snip-
Agreed. That's the reason I didn't enjoyed Torchlight 2 much. Legend of Zelda games are an exception. Twilight Princess being my fav aesthetics-wise.

I hate -and I mean I am truly, TRULY deeply bothered by this- when videogames have re;something in the title replacing a real word starting with "re".

See re;Quest instead of "request".
It is. F******. Idiotic.
It pisses me off to no end, even if it is a very minor thing.

About crafting: it depends for me. Most games don't need it, while survival ones (like the superb Darkwood) would be massively inerior without some form of it.
What I don't like is every single new game apparently needing it, to the point of having to craft your own ammo in FPS.
