It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

ExiledGamer987: Same bs here. Facebook is cancer. I'll back up my Grim Dawn stuff and go to another platform if they try to force me in with social media apps and all kinds of bs that has nothing to do with my game. I just want to play a single player game in solitude.
But why are you using Galaxy then? You can just download your games directly through your browser. Or is it because of achievements?

Kobi_Blade: Is a good reason to avoid installing GoG Galaxy in the future, I'm disappointed that GoG is supporting a company that doesn't respect users privacy.
Agreed. This stuff is yet another reason why I don't use Galaxy either. Although the GOG website also has social media Javascripts (GOG.com runs : 1x gog.com, 1x google.com, 1x googletagmanager.com, 1x facebook.net and 1x twitter.com), unlike the client that stuff is easily blocked in a proper web-browser (see attached screenshot of NoScript blocking the 3 unwanted ones and running only the two that are actually needed for the site to function).

kai2: Each time I move between pages on the General Discussion board, my browser opens and tries to connect to Facebook (unsuccessfully).

Anyone else getting this?

Keeps saying "Invalid App ID..."
This issue has been already reported and we're working on it. I'll make sure to let you know about any updates.
What the heck, GOG? Why don't you get rid of all the facebook crap from your code? You know all too well that many people (not only here) hate facebook and for good reasons.

Is it not bad enough that you have Google's captcha, now these facebook shenanigans popping up every few weeks? Stop associating yourself with the worst of the internet.

Glad to see you're working on it. Just started getting the bug searching the forums today.

How about getting rid of all the Facebook crap? That should solve the problem. A lot of us don't want any connection with that data mining company anyway.

It's not just THAT it's happening. It's WHY it's happening. WHY is Galaxy trying to connect to Facebook? Are you guys data mining Galaxy users? Not me, my firewall is safe. But if you are, shame on you. After the first time, I thought it was something to do with the useless login feature (Why would ANYONE login through facebook...?) but it's happening even though I've never even considered clicking on your cancer at the login screen.

WHY ARE YOU LINKED TO FACEBOOK?!

Better have a good answer on why you try to log in on facebook without asking for permission the first place. Huge lost in trust.

I`ve noticed long ago, that even the forum pages (without Galaxy!) seem to connect to Facebook somehow.
Saw people reporting this problem and was able to reproduce it here as well with Galaxy 1.2.57 even though I normally don't view the forums within Galaxy as it's so much more flexible to do it using a web browser with addons etc. that make the experience much better.

With respect to the Facebook usage, the website links to GOG's Facebook page in the page footer, which doesn't show up in Galaxy specifically, but they are also apparently using the Facebook Connect service, which allows people to log on to one website using their login credentials of another website. An increasing number of websites are providing this single sign-on type service nowadays, so you can for example "log on to GOG using your Facebook account" or similar.

https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/Facebook-Connect

Presumably the code in the web page that implements this feature is broken and malfunctioning, or it is possible Facebook changed how it works on their end and GOG needs to update the code to fix it.

Not sure if there are any other connections to Facebook on the website, but a curious web developer could review the page source code to determine any further details.

I'd wager something changed on the GOG end which introduced a server side glitch that they'll probably resolve soon enough.

UltraComboTV: When it first happened a few months ago, I made this meme. It was in good fun. But trying to sell me on galaxy 2.0 while launching facebook just aint going to fly........

paladin181: This is disturbing. I don't Facebook and I don't want their shit on my DRM Free gaming.

matterbandit: Agreed! To be honest, it makes my blood boil... I don't Facebook either and I'd rather be infested with a debilitating, mouth-foaming case of ceftriaxone-resistant gonorrhea than this invasive piece of crap.
I read that sentence from paladin and assumed a word was missing, probably "like" or "trust". But you use it as a verb... fuck fuck fuck. First google and now bloody facebook. Fuck them both. Fuck them hard.

How is this not high rated yet?

This post alone should receive so many upvotes your rep goes into the quintuple digits.
This is extremely disturbing and annoying. After the initial fiasco with Facebook links during the Obduction GA, one would have thought that GOG would have learned their lesson.

And also can anyone knowledgeable about this stuff explain what page is it trying to open?

Also, seems like this problem has been there for more than seventeen hours, and STILL they have not been able to fix this?

Can a BLUE atleast make a statement regarding why it is happenning and when are they planning to fix it?
I hope they are not planning to fix it "SOON".

It appears related to single sign-on from what I can tell (mentioned in my previous comment above). The purpose/benefit of this is it allows people to log into one website using their credentials from another website without having to make a new account on every website individually.

Many people such as myself prefer to have direct login to most websites, but there are others out there that benefit from being able to log into various websites by using a single login such as their Facebook, Twitter, Gmail etc.

The Steamgifts website is a good example many here might be familiar with, where you log into the site by using your Steam account, where it temporarily redirects you to Steam to log in and authorize their website, then redirects you back. Other examples of something similar are the Streamlabs, StreamElements websites used by many Twitch streamers, where you log into those services by using your Twitch login.

It's basically an optional end user convenience feature for users who prefer to not have zillions of separate accounts everywhere.

Of course, nobody is forced to use the feature, nor to have an account on any of those 3rd party websites like Facebook etc.

The real problem as I see it isn't that GOG is providing this as a feature, but that not enough quality assurance testing is being done to ensure that these things do not break when they go live. Nobody would likely bat an eye if things didn't break, but when things break and there is no clear communication with enough details to understand the problem, then people try to figure it out themselves very naturally, which can lead to paranoia over privacy issues and other bad vibes, which can then take on a life of its own.

Proposed solutions:
1. Better QA testing before rolling out feature enhancements or other changes.
2. Better public communication of changes ahead of time, and when things break so that people know what is happening and don't get as overly excited about things and rampant with speculation.
