Atlo: Apart from a better UI -- I actually don't remember! :'D
Some people here who use Galaxy tend to stick to that version. I switched over to v.2, but I remember that 1.2 was in some regards better. But I don't even remember how the UI looked.
A better question is why is yours not updating? The OS can't be it - I also use Win7.
I remember how upset I was about the first version of Galaxy after the semi-closed beta test. In beta test version I could right click on the application icon for a pop-up menu with an "exit" option (same as Steam and some other clients), they removed it in public release version. I was glad when they turned that feature back in Galaxy ver. 2.
As for the UI I don't recall any major differences except for the account linking stuff and some little tweaks in settings. The whole UI looks pretty much the same to me.
I don't know why it stopped doing that. There was a time when Galaxy stopped updating under Windows 7 back in 2021 (or was it 2020?), users with the same issue were ignored for a time and then later GOG suggested to reinstall the client and download new version from the website which I did but after several updates it stopped again. It tried updating itself several times and one time, about a month ago, GOG Galaxy was super sluggish almost frozen and then the message appeared, something like: (not direct quotation, my words)
"GOG Galaxy can't be updated due to uknown reason, check your connection, please note that without latest updates your life is going to be miserable. Try downloading the latest version from website, don't hesitate or ELSE!".
I was pretty shocked and since officially GOG Galaxy is not supported for Windows 7, I *thought* I'm stuck.
Why haven't I tried downloading a new version directly from the website? You wouldn't beleive it. Previously GOG Galaxy was pretty heavy on resources and internet traffic (it's unlimited for me, I mean the sluggishness) and suddenly everything is gone.
GOG Galaxy stopped trying to check the version update, the whole startup process is fast - it's like HDD-to-SDD boost.
And since it works better than ever why change it?
But thank you, I didn't know that I could have the actual version for my dying Windows 7.
A question to you - why are you still using Windows 7? And what will you do IF GOG drop the support along with Steam?
Ancient-Red-Dragon: GOG should indeed abandon Galaxy 2.0 and 100% cut all funding for it, and revive Galaxy 1.2 in its place.
Perhaps you could help. What's so good about Galaxy 1.2?
