Matruchus: eggs (1.48€ minimum)
avatar
Splatsch: One egg is 1.48€ ? Oo
No, sorry fixed that. 10 eggs is 1.48€ that's a normal package here. You can get also 6x eggs package but it doesn't go under 1€ eitherway.

Don't you people use dozen?
Also pasta is really cheap.
I can't even get 1/2 kg of pasta with 1$.

No standard size for eggs package in Slovenia and probably in rest of EU is 10 eggs. You can occasionally get bigger packages off eggs like 12 or 18 eggs but they are then size S or M.

Hunter65536: West Bengal?

amrit9037: No, that's some place in India right?
I think in every country/lsland on seashore simple seafoods are relatively cheap.
From what I've heard fish is considered vegetarian by people in that state because according to them they're "flowers of water"

1 L of gasoline
2 L generic pop bottle
~2 apples or bananas
19 5-cent candies

That's about it. Definitely not milk, flour, bread, vegetables, or any other staples that I can think of.

amrit9037: How about some raw materials for pasta/pizza?
I usually buy pasta at the supermarket, while for pizza I prefer to buy it in a pizzeria (because here they usually use a wood oven that is the best oven for pizza). If you want a pizza from a pizzeria you pay 5€ for a margherita that is the base pizza here (tomato and mozzarella)... I know that in many place in europe the base pizza don't use mozzarella, but only some sort of cheese, and also margherita is not the base pizza.

for pasta there is a difference between dry and fresh pasta, fresh pasta is 3-4€ for 400 g, while dry pasta is much cheaper (1-2€ for 1 Kg).
Also for fresh pasta I talk about raw pasta not flavored... because precooked pasta sucks (really, it sucks a lot).

Of course if you are able to do pasta and pizza with flour and others raw materials you can save a lot of money... I can do that (because my mother is really good at cook) but I don't have much time.

Fruits and vegetables are cheaper than in the rest of europe but there is a lot of difference between north and south of italy... the only thing to remember is to buy fruits and vegetables from market where you can find farmers.

Anyway for what I know food is cheap here (you just have to avoid eat in a restaurant every day) ... but gasoline for example is not (1 L is 1.5 €). The taxes here are the 22%, quite high. for this reason even really cheap thing like milk are sold for an high price...
1 L of milk if you buy raw milk from a farmers is 0.4 cent... but at the supermarket is 1-1.5€.

A small state, and you'll get some change back.

More likely it means fresh eggs would supersede as the dominant currency. And since they are perishable sooner or later you have to eat them. Only people with thousands of chickens would be rich and even then the currency only lasts so long so you can't just stock pile a bunch. Add to the fact carrying them around would have physical limitations.

But you can keep eggs good and fresh for over 6 months, as long as you don't wash them...
With 1 Dollar, nothing, you must change in euro first.
Just back from the grocery looking at the reciept two items cost €.85, so just under a U$D: A 175g loaf of bread, a 300g piece of broccoli. To buy cheap food one needs to buy larger quantities.
A sweet

Narakir: A sweet
That's a little vague. :P In the States a "sweet" can be a piece of candy or a hooker. Actually, a piece of candy can also be a hooker.
