rtcvb32: If you don't consider things new and will shop around a little, used book stores you can get a book for $1, although those are probably children's books.

Second hand stores, a decent knife, 10+ feet of cord/line, a shirt, a few handkerchiefs maybe.

If we're talking food management over time for $1/day then that is a bad way to judge it. I can get a bag of potatoes and other veggies that add up to $10 or so but I can make a meal a day for over a week, just takes a little more time.

Flea markets will have items for cheap as well, so there's no reason to have real low quality dollar store items.

Tauto: You buy fleas?
No, from what it looks like, you show up here for free.

I suppose you deserve a serious answer though:
We refer to certain outdoor markets as "flea markets". These things are usually a regular event, held weekly or monthly. Anybody can come and sell stuff so long as they sign up and pay a fee, so they're notorious for having nothing but junk sold at a dirt cheap price, hence the slang "flea market" arising. Of course, they've sort of lost this negative connotation over the years and sometimes there's some real gems available depending on the seller.

Earlier I was thinking garage sales. A buck will get you 1-4 VHS tapes, maybe a couple CDs, 4-10 books, a shirt or maybe pants if you're lucky. Or a lamp, or a couple old coffee mugs, or, or, or...

adaliabooks: timmy has already covered the UK pretty well but:
you both missed out "yer head kicked in" and "a charge of fraud" - depending on whether you live north or south of the top bit of the M25.

Hunter65536: Others are fine but you'd have to search quite a bit to find a place which serves vegetarian lunch at $1. (in my state at least, would have been easy until a year ago though)

Shadowstalker16: That's why its always better to get a masala dosha because it doesn't need any DLC.
It might need chutney DLC though, some restaurants charge extra for more chutney.
So Russia is even more cheaper than my place. No wonder most of people who can afford pricey higher education prefer Russia.

Depends on the people. At second hand shops and garage sales I bought very good clothes for $3. Books are bound to be better priced at garage sales I agree, usually romance or part of a set they were reading. silverware/dishes probably 10 cents per piece to a dollar per.

$1 just isn't what it used to be, and I'm slowly facing the fact that $1 some 20-30 years ago is closer to $5 today's worth in value. Not to say there wasn't crap being sold at $1, but there's seemingly more now.

It's kinda too bad that audio cassettes and VHS aren't still a thing, along with a lot more of the older technology.

I once got around 5-10 very old comics which had Phantom and Flash Gordon titles for 1$.

No, that's some place in India right?
I think in every country/lsland on seashore simple seafoods are relatively cheap.
I can buy lunch with the money.

If I am frugal, I can use it for both breakfast and lunch. -.-

LiefLayer: nothing we use € (euro). But with 0.87 cent I can get water from water tap in my house... seriously 0.87 cent are very few here.
1 cup coffee is usually 1€ (you can find it for a lower price but 1€ is average)
How about some raw materials for pasta/pizza?

You won't get very far, even a bag of flour will cost at least 50 cents.
And I doubt 37 cents will get you everything else.
Not much for that amount. 1$=0.88€ at the moment.

Any of these:

1L of generic milk (no brand product).
4 generic jogurts.
A small Twix or Mars bar.
4 generic small chocolate bars (Lidl, Hofer and such stores).
3L of generic mineral water (Interspar, Hofer, Lidl).
2 generic beers (Hofer, Lidl, Eurospin and other discounters).
1L of generic cola (around 0.50€)
Chocolate bar generic (Hofer, Lidl, etc. = cca. 0.50€)
500g sour cream (Hofer, Lidl).
2 kg of flour
1-2kg of pasta (Hofer, Lidl, Eurospin).
1-2 bags of 100g generic coffee (Lidl, Hofer, Eurospin).

Can't buy with that amount:
10 eggs package (1.48€ minimum size L)
bread (cca. 1.50€ minimum for a loaf)
coup of coffee (minimum 1.00€ at a very bad bar)
1L Coca Cola (1.18€ minimum). 2€ in a bar for 250ML
Brand coffee (1.19€ per 100g minimum).
Milka 80g bar cca. 1-1.10€.
1L brand milk.
