A Quote from checkout: "You have to select at least one item to redeem. It will be added to your_nickname account and appear in your library. Code expires on Dec 31, 2199, 11:00 PM. "

Codes for games are valid for nearly 200 years. Summing up that these are lifelong licences it is not taking into credit the possibility of prolonging life to full 120 years or beyond by dropping physical forms and keeping on existing as holograms or so. (thinking inspired by a videogame) or simply gifting code further.

What will happen to a code at the time mentioned above ? or if you like: What will happen on that date/time?

Please give me/us a clue, and I will send a code at (midnight UTC) for the most inspiring/entertaining answer for Opus: The Day We Found Earth, videogame, and maybe you will find it entertaining too. Thank You!

Have a good Sunday!

I guess it would be the time needed for that game to be delisted and then for a remake to replace it.

Long live games.

Obviously, all GOG games will slide into the public domain at exactly this point in time.

Haha. Public domain. That will finally cease to exist within the next 30 years or so as Disney will pursue perpetual licensing for anyone with enough money to purchase it, and some how deem that any rights that are not upkept will default to them. Copyright will become the Disney-right. You will only be allowed to have and use original ideas as long as Disney lets you!!!

I'm afraid that will not be a good answer for this thread, but I think that year 2199 is too far away to be worried about.
The year 2038 is much much closer and some of us (most?) will "reach" it.
If GOG survives year 2038 then nothing worse can happen in 2199.

The 32bit time problem... except i think all servers will have been updated by then to use 64bit, and only a handful of systems that are not life essential or game or product related will be running old 32bit date/time at that point.

Much like the Y2K Problem where it was 2 bytes to determine year by replacing 19XX with the year, not much will happen.

Assuming Copyright doesn't get extended (yet again) in 200 years any game(s) you bought will be in open domain and it won't matter if you lose the keys or not.

Hmmm so you did consider that. I don't think it will matter. By that time you and i and everyone you know will be dead, and people might be in full Dive MMORPG games or like in the Matrix, at which point you get the sceen from Back to the Future 2...
The whore of Babylon shall ride forth on a three-headed serpent, and throughout the lands, there'll be a great rubbing of parts....

...For the demon shall bear a nine-bladed sword. Nine-bladed! Not two or five or seven, but nine, which he will wield on all wretched sinners, sinners just like you, sir, there, and the horns shall be on the head...

There shall, in that time, be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things wi-- with the sort of raffia work base that has an attachment. At this time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock. Yea, it is written in the book of Cyril...

On that date, the ancient prophecy will come true as foretold, and as the codes seemingly expire, so will their true potential come to light: verily, the codes themselves are only parts of an interlocking puzzle, a bigger code that is only revealed when all the codes are brought together. On that day of Dec 31, 2199, 11:00 PM, fortune-seekers from all around the world will join in in the grand quest to combine the codes into the Grand Unified Code. And then, the true purpose of the codes will become unlocked! With their powers combined, the unified code will do one of a multitude of grand and wonderful or terrible things. The code will either:

1) Reveal the answer to the question about Life, the Universe, and Everything!

2) Yield the secret of the Anti-Life Equation.

3) Turn out to be the source code to Half-Life 3.

4) Turn out to be the source code of The Matrix itself.

5) Turn out to be a secret mathematical equation that reveals P is the same as NP and breaks all cryptography and DRM everywhere.

6) Unlock a network of intergalactic stargates, ushering in an age of space exploration and adventure!

7) Form into Captain Planet!

8) Form into the mighty Voltron!

9) Form into a cute little dog that will proceed to fall asleep and ignore all the excitement around it.

Kinda realistic ngl
Thank you, all answers are inspiring, as I am a sinner I will mix your answers into one...
What will happen on Dec 31, 2199, 11:00 PM. ?

Remakes not as we know it at the godlike scientific public domains with perpetual licensing until 2038. Everyone you know will be dead or in games, sinners just like you, 2077 will be worth playing, I hope so, Grand quest to combine the codes into the Grand Unified Code. And then, Time will cease to exist... Kinda realistic ngl

This place is best forum ever, I have to send code to DiffuseReflection, but you are all Stars(or sinners), please shine!
