fr33kSh0w2012: Are you sure you don't have Asperger's Syndrome? Y/N

matterbandit: Yes, I am 100% certain I don't have Asperger's Syndrome. Was it something I said?
Interesting because you basically described what Iwas like
avatar
fr33kSh0w2012: No It isn't about that it is about the word you are using to describe an Autistic person that can be seen as discrimination
It's not discrimination because a schoogirl is not a public service.

fr33kSh0w2012: it has derogative connotations
No shit it has "derogative connotations". Illnesses, disabilities and disorders are bad. Cluelessly inserting yourself into any social situation as the butt of the joke is bad. Obsessing over a book for primary schoolers when you're eligible to emancipate and marry and almost eligible for the draft is bad.

avatar
fr33kSh0w2012: Would you like it If I called you a Spaz retard, If you had signs of both cerebral palsy and developmental delay?

No you would be the first one to kick up a stink.
If I were a spaz retard, I wouldn't care what you think either. In fact I wouldn't be able to read. That said, I'd definitely kick up a stink if the nurse forgot to clean.

avatar
fr33kSh0w2012: Think before you use derogative words, There may be a wealthy user on here with a relative with Autism that might take offense to that word, That could be a lawsuit for you.
On what grounds? "Someone on the internet mentioned a disorder, and my relative happens to have it, so I'm offended?" Bring it on.

I didn't really have any stressors in high school. I was a laid back kid, kept to myself. But there are classes I had trouble with.

-Math
Math was my weakest point. I thought I liked it. I didn't suck at it, just not cut out for it. I don't know if having the same teacher for your math classes each year helped or not, I doubt it. It's just the way it is with country schools I guess.
So mad respect to you, dtgreene. :)

-Science
I had a science teacher I thought was cool. Turned out he was a bit of snob with high standards. He would dock you points on every little thing on experiments. One time he expressed regret teaching here. I had to take an F and take a different science class with another teacher, I wasn't the only one. Students would flunk out of his classes. Only positive thing I remember was watching Cosmos by Carl Sagan, only a few episodes sadly.

Usual suspects - people and life.

Given that i've met plenty of people with the stated syndrom whom are quite capable of reading... That said, though, i've heard the majority of them don't care, just not because they can't read.

That said, why is this battle even going on? Someone gets offended at an ad hominem, and returns with ad hominems. This is obviously manipulative behavior, regardless of whether someone's actually offended or not.
a) Mathematical analysis... algebra was always OKish to me. I sort of made my peace with analysis in collage, after realizing high-school math is mostly child's play. I've always hated pure/non-applied mathematics, and this is coming from someone who almost majored in Physics, but ultimately picked Computer Engineering.

b) Girls. Most women are strange even in their best years (la donna e mobile!), let alone when growing up. Still, I could always relate more to my friends who happened to be girls, but when it got to more than that I always found myself on very uneven ground. Guess it's a pretty common story for us male introverts.

c) Unlike most other people, I never had much doubt about what I wanted to do in the future - it most certainly would be something to do with computers and computer programming. The support I got from my family to pursue this in general however was practically non-existent (a situation I've found myself throughout my life). If anything they did their best to get in the way at times. I guess this should be regarded as the no. 1 "stressor". It's less of a concern now when I'm self-sufficient, but having no one you can rely on when growing up pretty much sucks big time.

Are you talking about the past or do you still think "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus"? (I don't relate, I don't agree)

Talking about the past, mostly. People are unique and there's really no point in generalizing, but, that being said, men do tend to be simpler creatures :P.

There are also local social aspects that have to be considered, besides culture. A region's poverty level will also influence the type of people you come in contact with, and "less than ideal" characters can at times be common occurrence with both sexes, to a point where it becomes less a story about a few "bad apples", but rather a few "good apples".

Besides that deeper nuance, yes, there are some places/cultures on Earth where "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus", especially in, but not limited to, the Arab world.

I disagree. People are people; they're not a "different kind of human" because they live in a culture/country with strongly defined social gender roles. Or did you mean your own "disconnect" from very different kinds of cultures?
In general, there's a lot less difference between a man and a woman, than there is between any two random individuals - whatever their sex/gender.

No, they are not. Yet social pressure and tradition only allows them to behave in certain ways, set themselves into certain patterns. It's hard to relate to this sort of thing if you haven't been exposed to it at a young age. You say you disagree, yet I think we're on the same page, just talking about different things.

Difference in what? Behavior? Life goals? Then sure, gender is not a wall between people... unless they want it to be.

Otherwise there are certain biological differences which can't be denied and serve their purpose. But let's not derail this thread even further.

I disagree, there are many "different kinds of human", for example a "great man" and a "pleb". But neither biological nor social factors are what defines those. Carry on with your discussion citizens.

That happens everywhere, but it might seem a lot less obvious in your own county/culture/environment.

Any difference; that's why I said "in general". I don't deny biological differences - I state that they're often overestimated. Gender IS (or can be) a wall between people, but not necessarily more or less than anything else.

I don't think we're derailing this thread. For many people, social interaction (with the "opposite sex" or not), is a relevant stressor while growing up. What's wrong with discussing this subject/aspect a bit more in-depth?

So you agree but just wanted to share your personal experience/views. Cool! Sharing is caring! :-P

Indeed it is, and this is a thread about sharing high school experiences! I miss those days despite it's drawbacks. Games were better for one.
Bullying, easily.

I think if you made an histogram with people's top responses, bullying would be dead centre.

Second for me would be not knowing where my life is going, which is something I still struggle with.

Can't think of anything else.
