i_hope_you_rot: Unlock full game 3 days before its launch
I wonder how they factored this into the cost of those two editions without having giant shit-eating grins on their faces.
Great news! I'm replaying King's Bounty The Legend right now and I was hoping for a new installment.

And they wonder why people pirate games. o.O

Breja: So, apparently one of my favorite strategy/RPG hybrids is getting a sequel. That's good.

But that trailer... Why is it so serious? Why does it looks so... I don't know, medieval and "realistic"? I mean, the whole charm of the new King's Bounty series, to me at least, was the fairy tale-ish, whimsical fantasy tone. Don't get me wrong, darker stuff can be great too, but why change the established look so radically?
Yeah, I'm not sure what to think. On the one hand the King's Bounty series has been on life support for years, and a radical shift in tone like this might just be what the doctor ordered. On the other hand... Bomberman: Act Zero. Does it ever go well when a series changes from cartoony to grimdark?

Batman and Battlestar Galactica spring to mind.

Both were camp in their early tv incarnations. Reboots/remakes were much darker.

I can't think of any games though.

Batman was much darker in the original early comics though. And the rebooted Battlestar is probably the worst TV series ever made.
:( i love all four of the current King's Bounty games exactly as they are, and seeing this whole "gritty & realistic" thing doesn't fill me with joy for the new King's Bounty. i'll reserve purchase-judgement til the game actually drops and is therefor finalised in terms of how it works and is presented... but... one of the things i like best about King's Bounty is the bright, simple graphics and the flat, simple exploration viewpoint.

i've played Heroes of Might and Magic since it first came out (excluding the 1990 KB, since i wasn't even born then) and ubisoft trying to upgrade to the whole rotate-able, 3D graphics stuff on the map in 5 onwards did not improve anything at all for me. instead i just had stalactites getting in my visual way and the constant need to swivel the camera view around lest i miss some collectable or enemy. -_-. the news that 1C is apparently going to follow in those footsteps makes me very leery as to how King's Bounty 2 will turn out.

as an aside, i personally have not encountered a single game that has those little squad-visuals in combat that i have ever liked. i have always been perfectly content with my single dragon, or unicorn, or archer or whatever, and a number next to it indicating how many i have. less graphics intensive, if nothing else.

i would argue that King's Bounty did not make its name and following on "gritty" or "realistic" visuals and the corresponding dim-light, near-constant rainstorm visuals such descriptors often seem to encompass. maybe this change will be very popular and maybe it won't. i guess only time will tell.

i think we would all appreciate it, however, if GoG also got a release of the game, since stupid steam has it listed, as well as the other consoles its releasing on. GoG has quite loyally stocked the other four games for some time now. feels rather scummy of 1C to be apparently leaving GoG out in the (gritty, realistic) rain.

In the trailer mentioned in the first post, GOG is listed as a store.

markrichardb:
Damn, life support?

I loved Warriors of the North, and I like the idea of endless expansions and wish more would do that. Did not know it was not doing well.
Did someone say Dragon Age: Origins?! Anyway it's a cinematic trailer so I'm still on the fence

I wasn't a big fan either, but...that's pretty hyperbolic.

Perhaps you missed Brian Bosworth in "Lawless"

Or better, if you didn't know, there was actually an earlier sequel series ("Galactica 1980") that had a fraction of the budget and was far, far worse:

Not for me. It is by far the worst I've seen. It never made any sense. Ever. It's not just that the overall story didn't, but pretty much every single episode didn't add up, no ones actions made any sense... I honestly have never seen anything as badly written and just plain stupid. Worse yet, it was hopelessly pretentious, with the writers apparently sure they are making the smartest, deepest show ever. Even the acting was almost uniformly terrible. It makes Star Trek Discovery look good, and to even think that sentence not to mention write it down is terrifying to me.

Are you playing this on GOG? I remember that there was a bug in the GOG release. I think there was a bug, where one of the patches hadn't been properly applied and it was causing some issues. Unfortunately, I can't remember any specifics.

Apparently so, if you check the game forum. There's even a support page. And other solutions that seem to work. See lists of various .exes too. Also says there that it may or may not happen, or that it may only happen if you had a save made in one version and then continue after updating.
