So a recent Windows update decided to put this thing on my toolbar to "remind" me to upgrade to Windows 10.

Anyone know to remove it? (in b4 "by upgrading to windows 10", NO)

You mean the date is set in format month / day / year instead of the more logically day / month / year. Yeah it pisses me of too.

I'm just kidding.

I think the reason for the difference in how people list dates has to do with how one thinks about it. A year is longer than a month, which is longer than a day. Thinking of it that way, D/M/Y makes sense. However, another way of looking at it is that there's an indefinite amount of years, up to 31 days in a month, and only 12 months in a year. With that viewpoint, M/D/Y makes more sense.
lol americans, always wanted to be different, color, miles, football(they use their bloody hands)

People say that day, month and year is more more logical, but that's probably the least logical order. Year, month and day is the most logical order followed by month, day, and year.

Trying to sort things that are DD/MM/YY is just downright annoying.

No, it doesn`t. A month is still a variable (1 to 12) so what's the point?

Aren`t miles, pounds, gallons used in Canada too?

Year, month and day or day, month and year. Everything else has no sense.

The main problem with putting the day before the month is increased cognitive load and it breaking sort algorithms. When I'm confronted with MM/DD for posts, I immediately know whether they happened close to each other or far away. If, I'm confronted with DD/MM, then I have to ignore the first number to look at the second. Then I have to go back to the first number. It's a lot of unnecessary work.

Obviously, people get used to it, but it's sub-optimal.

Both Canadians and Americans have this sort of fucked up system where metric has crept in on certain things. The Canadian government has been forcing the issue, gas is now sold in metric quantities, which wasn't the case that long ago.

Road signs are all metric, my brother bought a car from Canada and not only was the metric prominent, it didn't even have MPH on there. Which makes no sense as nearly all Canadians live within an hour or two of the border with the US. In the US our speedometers always have both imperial and metric measures in case we want to drive outside the US.

I agree. The reverse order is especially useful in computing since non-specialised software will automatically sort dates in the correct order if written as 20151007 or 20101231. The existence of different separators (. and /) only adds to the confusion.

YYYY-MM-DD, the only correct date format. Get it right, heathen!

Well, no, not really. Putting the day first makes absolutely no sense. It's like those arguments where people claim that the metric system is more logical despite there being absolutely no logic to it.

Day first is completely wrong. Whether you think month or year should come first is a matter of perspective and opinion, but putting day first is completely wrong. For societies like the Chinese that have a long history, putting the year first makes some sense. For countries like the US where things tend to change yearly, placing the month first makes sense.

But, in no part of the world do things change so rapidly that putting the day first makes sense. It just makes the dates a huge jumble and sorting them a complete pain in the arse.

If you just want a date format and don't actually want to ever manipulate it, then it does have a sort of meta-logic to it. But, the moment you actually want to do things with it and parse it out, the format fails.
