I miss the sound of the wolves howling in the night, while I sit at my campfire eating fresh Pork Crackling and having a beer. And I miss the sound of baked beans farts, when the hunting isn't so good.

Mostly though, I miss the sound of dreams.

Darvond: Technology has changed a lot since the 1890s, from the death of the CRT to the explosion of keyboard mechanisms, there are a lot of sounds that are no longer here.

I miss certain hard drives, and the degassing of a CRT. What do you miss the sound of?
The SID chip!
-The insert coin sound in Street Fighter
+ the travel sound of the real coin into the arcade machine of course!
-The confirmation sound of the Capcom cheat on Street Fighter 2 in SNES
-Killer Instinct sounds & voices
-The boom shakalaka on the original NBA Jam
-Lift a cork bottle cap from a coke
-A 33.6kbps modem handshake to the ISP.
That specific one (not the 56kbps)
-The Siemens A55 cellphone polyphonic ringtones
-The Nokia ringtone on its mid 90's cellphones
-Degaussing a CRT monitor. Something like
-The local vendor announcing its rice pudding patties...
-The -mig mig- sound of a vw beetle

1890's... i guess horse drawn carriages and people slipping in cowpies...

But yes i know you meant 1990's. I suppose i miss most the sound of the Atari800XL, the floppy drive softly clicking and reading my floppies and the soft beep representing a sector was read as it boots a game or OS...

There's a lot i don't miss (Dial-up noises). Though the Windows 95 bootup sound was kinda iconic...
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women!
Bbbbbbrrr, blibblibblibblibblib, bbbbbbbr bbbbbrr blibblibblib…rtape loading error.

Trooper1270: The sound of the rotating dial of the original telephone when you dialled a number to make a call...

Oh yeah! And the *clonk* hanging up a little more forcefully...

Yep, nothing quite like the sound of the phone being slammed down in angst.
Thinking more, I also miss the sound of ball mice. They had a nice sound with the ball moving around in it, and some good clunks when you picked up to recenter. (Everything else about them was terrible.)

I own a trackball. So I do get to grip a nice firm ball, but recentering days are over for me.

Even upside-down-mice sound different now though with the optical sensors over the rolling ball rather than that "tangy"-sounding multi-wheel systems that they used to be.

BBC Micro boot.

And PET keys.

Darvond: What sound do you miss?
The good old telephone ringing (land line).

I don't get, why that ringing isn't an option on modern phones.
Instead we get served 200 more or less shitty melodies.
I still think the champion of bootup sounds is the G3 iMac. Such a triumph.

How about the old network sounds? Like the sound of the relay's clicking?
