Technology has changed a lot since the 1890s, from the death of the CRT to the explosion of keyboard mechanisms, there are a lot of sounds that are no longer here.

I miss certain hard drives, and the degassing of a CRT. What do you miss the sound of?

Well I don't miss Dot Matrix Printers = "I SAID YES. WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU, I'M PRINTING SOMETHING OUT". ;-)

To be honest I can't think of any "acoustic" sounds I miss other than the relief of hearing the "BIOS beep success code" when starting up the first time after an upgrade. From those god-awful 40mm early GPU / "Northbridge" fans that developed a high pitched whine after a few months to "squealing" on the audio output under load on early audio chips with poor filtering to the +15khz tone of a CRT to the buzz of fluorescent light / TFT inverters. Silence truly is golden.

What? Those? Whisper quiet compared to a teletype.

To be honest, nostalgia aside, I enjoy the quiet PC operation we're spoiled with today. Noctua fans FTW :P.

But I do sometimes miss the ZX Spectrum tape loader sounds. It's like bits are screaming at you from a trans-dimentional pit of horror - what's not to like :P. And floppy drive seek sounds, I guess. But I would not go back to listening to them all day long.

When I was a child, we had a teletyper in the kitchen corner, which worked as a kind of home office. It did not take long for it to be moved to another room where noone could here it unless being in that room. I still think the matrix printers were worse though even if they came with those big covers to dampen the sound.

Cannot think of any IT related sound I miss unless we talk about some old games.
I really miss this. Perhaps I should manually set it for win10. Then again, perhaps I should leave it, in order for it to gain nostalgia interest.
Yeah, the degaussing sound of CRTs... I can still hear it. :-)

The dot matrix printer I had (Epson LQ-something) wasn't that loud actually...

What else?

The Amiga 500 internal floppy drive sound with the typical clicking of the head switching lanes.
The modem connecting...
The microswitches in the digital joystick (like the Quickshot Turbo or the famous Competition Pro).

I used to like the memory ticking up during boot, or tape/floppy sound loading, even the needle printer.

In the early days PC and home computer system were truly quiet. No wonder, systems like MX or IBM, Commodore and how many other producers were out there on the market, they all got no fans. Heat was an issue and could lead to sudden death, Sinclair had numerous issues with this, as well as durability and reliability beside.

Noise became a problem when thin cases came on the market, fans were very loud because there was no way to regulate their rpm, later on this became possible but with CPU and GPU coolers getting very loud they did very little.
FX5800 the loudest GPU cooler out there you could really use them as hair drier and for many other tasks ... :)

Nowadays I enjoy the almost absolute silence of my systems. The most I hear is some constant air-flow from 9 external fans not at all noisy and my Noctua and GPU coolers. I would have to crank both up to 80% full speed to even know they are becoming audible and that's only with the GPU fans then.

1) Dial up modem

2) Cassette loading sounds - Check out the Amstrad CPC 464 with tape drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvChkOHgDIo
Tbh, I somehow miss the sound of ICQ and Messenger. It's an odd thing, but makes me nostalgic when I remember it randomly.

Me either.

Perhaps I miss the sound of a VHS video tape ejecting or being fast forwarded or rewound ... same for those last two with audio cassettes.

Technology aside, I miss the sound of crunchy Pork Crackling, fresh from a pig on the spit ... don't partake anywhere near enough. The vegetarian half of my brave is disgusted by that, but I am the complete picture of a compromise.

P.S. Actually I quite miss the sound of a 64k modem connecting ... though not late at night. And the sound of a dial phone.

Do you know who composed that sound?

How about the opening sound of Duke Nukem? You know, this?

Wow, Brian Eno, I never knew!
