LinustheBold: Aaaand I was just notified that I got another part, the role of Hubert in Shakespeare's "King John."
tinyE: WAIT WAIT WAIT
You're a Shakespearean actor!?
Okay that only takes more ability that 99.99% of all humans who have ever lived have ever possessed. I am beyond impressed.
I love Shakespeare. I trained (briefly) in London, many years ago; I wanted to be a career actor, but making money at it is tricky. I gave it up years back on account of crazy-making, and got back on stage about two years ago now, I guess. It's been a wonderful return. I no longer think about it in career terms - I'm too old to play games with that, which is a plus and a minus - but rather in terms of doing what I love, as long and as best as I can.
I did Caesar in Julius Caesar in March, which was a joy (I am very short, and sometimes people don't quite see me in the role of the king, so it's a special pleasure when I get those chances).
I'm happy to take the compliment, but I do believe lots of people can play Shakespeare - they just don't know it. (Or they don't want to, which is certainly valid.) Once you get started, it gets easier over time, as an actor will have more and more experience and resources to bring to it.
JudasIscariot: Ahh "The Importance of Being Earnest", one of my favorite Oscar Wilde works :D
I'm playing Lady Bracknell. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS, it should be amazing fun. (Yes, I'm a male - there have been several notable male actors taking on Bracknell, in recent years; I believe there's one scheduled for the West End this summer.)
