Me too! It was the letter R for me, which I'm quite fond of. Very exciting!

I haven't received just one alphanumeric character but more of them in my mail. 0 (Zero) was especially cool. :)

I can only hazard a guess, which is that people are doing it hoping to get a negative reaction out of you and some kind of verbal confirmation to know that they had that effect, presumably so they'll keep doing it more in the future for some kind of personal amusement or whatnot. Your edit more or less has the potential result to confirm this for them and add fuel to their desire to do it more in the future I'm guessing. Best thing to do with regard to post rating and forum rep in the GOG forums is to just completely pretend it doesn't exist, because there is absolutely nothing one can do to control the behaviour of others who might misuse/abuse the system and GOG has shown no signs of interest whatsoever in doing anything to combat rampant forum abuse so I wouldn't expect it to change any time in the future.

The best we can all hope for is to enjoy the forums while they still have any semblance of a positive cohesive community left here, because the user base is slowly growing over time and taking on all kinds of people, and in the process slowly degrading over time in quality and community spirit as more negative and/or hostile personalities join the fold and end up scaring away those who are of a more friendly or neutral nature. The complete anarchic system in place here worked fine when GOG was small, but over time anarchy will be the destruction of it all in terms of it being a mostly friendly place IMHO.

I'm not sure what the best solution to these problems might be, but I know that the current method GOG is using which is more or less to let the patients run the asylum is turning out to work more and more poorly as time goes on. I don't expect that trend to reverse any time soon TBH.
