dtgreene: Went to a concert for an orchestra I usually play in, but I didn't play in this summer. It was a good concert, and I got a chance to talk to some of my friends in that group.
Emachine9643: Might I ask what instrument you play?
In that particular group, I play the clarinet.
I also play the bassoon, and I actually have a concert for a different group coming up.

paigosa: How large is the orchestra? I have always been envious of those with access to the arts.
This particular orchestra has about 130 members, far more than any of the other groups I play in.
It is worth noting that this particular orchestra does not limit the size of the wind sections; it's not unusual to have more than a half dozen each of flutes and clarinets. The only requirements are that you pay the fee and to not be so horrible that you would hurt the group; some of the members have just picked up their instrument again after 20+ years of not playing.
If you can play a suitable musical instrument but haven't, I would suggest looking for a community band or orchestra in your area; they exist for all skill levels.
