StingingVelvet: Researcher for a finance company. Not the best thing ever, but good for now. Probably gonna get certified to teach in night school at some point.
Dunno, research work sounds great in light of my work history for various companies. Sure beats the dead end jobs I got in software development (I say "software development" as a very loose term, not much of that was happening).
To put salt on the wound, they'd also stipulate in hiring contracts that any intellectual property I'd come up with, related to the job or not and at the office or at home, would be theirs by default, thus ensuring my creative drive would be shut down both at work and at home.

A little thing...
We've had this walnut tree growing in a flower bed this this year, not exactly where I want it. And I don't want the walnuts strewn around the yard should the damn thing mature. Been meaning to yank the sucker for a while now but kept forgetting to do so. Wife reminded me, grabbed the gloves and shovel this afternoon, and we went at it. Being 6+ feet tall by now, I thought it was going to be a bear to get out of there but I decided to try to tug the sucker out. Waddayaknow, the roots grew horizontally instead of digging deep into the flower bed. I was expecting a couple hours of digging and it turned into about two minutes of pulling and we simply moved the disturbed dirt back into place.
Congrats on the job offers, Velvet.

Knowing my first full week of work starts on Monday, got a job last Wednesday after being unemployed for about a year and ill previously for about four years. Feels great to have my life back.

I'm happy start exercising again after a 4 month hiatus. It feels good to know that if I ever get fed up with gaming as a hobby (be it due to new games not appealing to me, not liking the new trends in draconian DRM etc.), I can just as well just forget about it and concentrate on another hobby.
Just hoping not to break my leg and then wishing there'd be something to play, but for that I have the huge game backlog available already.

Yesterday my daughter came home with a goldfish she won at a local fair the night before. Usual setup: tiny bowl, no food, swimming in its own ammonia. Wound up going to the pet store and picking up a tank, food, water cleaner, gravel and plants with money we don't have (less than $50 though...great deal), set it up and prayed like mad. So, I was happy this morning when I got up and it was still alive! Yay!
That, and I somehow still keep waking up next to the most amazing woman I've ever known...can't figure out for the life of me how she's still here, but it makes me happy. :)
And congrats on the jobs!! I've been out of work since July '09 so I've felt your pain. Hopefully I'll feel your joy when I submit my resume tomorrow morning, too!

WTF?? In the States, there's nothing different about the logo. This p*ss*s me off. Mercury was my generation's Lennon, and certainly in North America as well as in the UK. Google dropped the ball on this one.
Thanks for the heads up; I checked out the UK logo.
EDIT to add: Hmm, just noticed that on the US version, there's supposed to be a doodle celebrating Lucille Ball's 100th birthday today, but it's not live as of yet. Guess that's a decent reason to not celebrate Mercury but, IMHO, there should have been two doodles today, as they are certainly both deserving.
