Being alive in this bitch.
My brother's business partner managed to run their business into the ground and rack up a crap-ton of debt in the process. Witnesses say he specifically said that his goal was to create as much debt as possible and force my brother into bankruptcy. Nice guy.

Some of our family has invested in the business, as well, and that money is gone. Crap, but we'll get over it.

He started a second business doing the same type of work, and brought most of the employees over. Also started simply commandeering equipment and raw materials from the first business, and arbitrarily assumed some of the incomplete contracts from the first business. Proceeded to run that one into the ground, as well. In the process of doing so, this is when he made the comment - to those employees - about screwing over my brother.

Well, he managed to also screw those same employees by not paying them a couple times. Er, not quite correct. He paid them, but the checks were no good. Also wrote bad checks to some suppliers. Eventually all of the employees filed police reports, the totals went into the felony range, the judge ignored the lenient recommendations of the plea deal, and he's been sentenced to 120 days in jail under a work-release program. Still refuses to accept responsibility for any of this, which is why the judge tossed aside the recommendations.

Still in progress, my brother is also trying to build a case for fraud and identity theft, for some forged credit applications. Once he can finally get his hands on documentation and the company computers, he might be able to find other criminal behavior. We'll see how that goes but it could lead to more jail time.

Crappy thing for the partner's family to deal with, and he deserves every bit of it. It's not a good thing that I feel this way, but I'm happy that justice is being served and that it might lead to my brother not getting so utterly screwed in the end.
I like this thread.

Yesterday I made it in to work after two days home sick. I'm home sick quite a lot for the last several months, and it makes me feel dumb and lazy. Not true, but it can feel that way when you miss so much work and you're not in a body cast or something.

In any case, yesterday at work I realized that i'm quite good at my job. That it's difficult for people to cover my territory when I'm out, that they're happy when I'm back, that I can do my job better than they can while I'm out. It felt good.

Today, my wife and kids let me sleep in for a couple hours. Bless 'em, it did me good.

Plus, I just won a couple giveaways of games I've been eyeing for some time!

Happy day.

Cheers!
Haven't had a real laugh in a while, did today listening to people talking about food coming out of bums
That made me happy, at least for a few minutes :)
I had a headache for most of the day, but was able to be creative with my fancy old-fashioned fountain pens, practicing fancy script. I finally have it down as nice as it's going to get, and can now work on my actual project (it's for a gift). Not being an artist, I'm quite proud of it. Lots of practice though, to the point where my arm got super sore and I ended up taking a nap.

Overall though, a good day. :)
Paying off a bill today :)
Snow tires on my truck. I've never put snow tires on my truck before. I got a reasonable deal on a set of used snowies for it on kijiji. I had no idea how good it could be in the snow. We had a bit of freezing rain today, and my truck was still stuck to the road nicely.
I met a friend in real life today after only knowing her online for several years. It was really fun :-)
It's wasn't today but yesterday I saw Nick Cave and it was freaking amazing!!!
Despite my american football team losing, I had a very mellow day. Things are about to get busy because I've got just over a week before I move, so I'm trying to enjoy today and tomorrow as much as possible.

That's pretty sweet. I've never seen him live. What stuff was he playing?
My happiness actually arrived very early this morning by email :)

My Mum is in hospital after having her bowel re-attached (she had a stoma + bag for the last year after partial bowel removal). My Dad and I decided to upgrade her computer as a surprise seeing as the one she was using was an ancient one with Windows XP installed

So I went and bought Windows 7, installed onto the hard drive and copied across relevant things like Firefox profile, etc... then it came to her games. Mum plays about five games religiously; a freeware version of Scrabble being her favourite. Problem was I found out Scrabble doesn't work with Windows 7 :/ And she never bothered with the new one by Hasbro I bought her last year, preferring this older one

I tried everything relating to compatibility settings to no avail. So I had a look at the game directory and ended up finding it's source code there and noticed it's Blitz Basic [Blitz3D]. So to cut a longer story short, I ended up finding out who actually made the game. His website no longer existed but thanks to the Wayback Machine, I found his old website and an email address

So I emailed it

And he wrote back! :D Not only did he explain what was the problem but he fixed it and gave me a link to where he uploaded it! :D

So thankyou Gavin Woodworth, you're a gentleman and a scholar. My Mum will now have not only a new computer to come home to, but her favourite game is able to be played :)
