Tarnicus: Seeing my father yesterday for the second time in two weeks after a 7 year hiatus. I've only seen him three or four times in almost 20 years. He encouraged my creative writing pursuits and that evoked a feeling that I do not remember feeling before - support from family for my goals in life. We talked about willpower and discipline and he said something that made perfect sense to me:
"One needs discipline to focus on the Light and willpower to resist the Darkness within." The literal meaning of my name is both dark one and light one, depending on the etymology used to determine its meaning.
I set myself a task yesterday: to be more disciplined with my creative works. I have been developing a plan and working sporadically on writing this year, after a very lengthy break from doing so. I guess you could say that I lost my will and my way. Today I put that plan into action, and adhered to it. I have set aside two periods in the day where I turn off my phone, email, instant chat and GOG, and focus exclusively on research and writing to complete this task. I achieved a lot today with writing :)
Can't even begin to tell you how happy I am for you, on both accounts. :-)
Pretty sure your father's words make sense to a lot of us, they certainly make for me, thanks for sharing.
