awalterj: I found
Civilization V + Gods vs Kings in my mailbox today, no envelope and no postage, just the DVD. Didn't order anything so this is weird. I think I know who could be behind this and I plan to find out tomorrow.
Not sure if my cheap laptop can even run this, it says quad core 2,5 GHz recommended and I only have dualcore 2,2 Ghz. I do have 4 GB RAM though so maybe I'll be fine.
Is this game any good? I haven't played any Civilization games past the first two. Anyway, it's a strange early Christmas mystery for sure.
I think 5 is the easiest to get into of 1,2,3,4,5. (although I've only tried the first one after 4 came out and was rebuffed by how old it felt even though I've been playing computer games since pong came out)
CIV V is best with the Brave New World DLC, but I liked all 3 version (Original, Gods & King, Brave New World), I just finished playing all civilizations/leaders on normal speed yesterday. I think I have all downloadable civilizations (except mods) and I restarted at 0 both when G&K and BNW came out. ) Steam says I have 1570 hours on it. I thing Pocatello/The Shoshone is my favorite leader/civ but there are have so many that I'll have to replay with a couple. Now I plan to play with all speed, size, world age etc... and also all included scenarios. I also need go go beyond the King difficulties since I now usually beat it (after a long time finding Prince hard enough). It is the game of the 4X genre on which I have spent the most time.
My only complains with it are the long load times, both to start the game and to load a save game. It's also not very friendly to the video card when played in a windows or ALT-TABing in full screen. It made my old one overheat (and shutdown the computer) and my present one (GEFORCE GTX 650) run out of memory (1GB). I know my video card it not the best one out there but it should be able to handle a turned based game without issues. I don't have any issue when running full screen and not switching to other application (except some weird video glitch twice since the game came out).
If your CIV strategy depends on stacking a lot of military units on top of one another than you'll hate 5 if you can't adjust to the one military unit by hex rule.
And to honor the thread theme: What made me happy today is a visit from my dad.
