The rather small renovation of my old apartment (the kitchenette and the bathroom) is finally finished, god damn it. I was originally hoping to have it finished by mid August or so... There were some surprises that complicated things a bit and caused extra work, and the renovator also messed up some things that caused delays, e.g. somehow he couldn't comprehend there should be a dish draining closet above the kitchen sink, he had installed a normal closed cabinet there instead. Such draining cabinet is the standard here above the kitchen sinks, like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dish_draining_closet So we had to fix it afterwards, making a big hole on the bottom of the closet and installing the draining grates, etc. And the renovator also threw away some installed lamps and air vents even though I hadn't told him to, so I needed to buy new ones to replace them.
We also seemed to have severe communication problems of what kind of items he needed, first he said the new lamp above the kitchen sink needs to include a residual-current device, then he said no he meant for the lamp in the bathroom, and in the end it turned out that the RCD is not needed into bathroom either (as it was merely a lamp installed high on the wall, not including any sockets). God damn it, I think I tried to hunt down for a RCD-capable lamp suitable for kitchen and/or bathroom for like two weeks, the store clerks had no idea why I was looking for one (and didn't have any) etc. All for nothing. If I had wanted to hire an amateur to do the renovation, I would have hired myself instead.
However, now it is all finally finished, and I can either rent the apartment out, or sell it. Overall I am otherwise pretty happy with the outcome, especially the kitchenette looks now much more attractive than before.
