This is why I find it difficult to care too much and become more cynical.

You have an apparently clueless well intentioned guy / gal that seems to lack social skills to the point of not understanding that things are now at the point other people dislike him for constantly talking about X. It no longer matters if he does it politely or not, on topic or not - he is being reacted to due to personal dislike, and yet continues to act as if in denial of that. Of course maybe it's a martyr complex of sorts... and maybe he has planned this to prove a point at a meta level. But I don't think it should matter really...

And you have an almost mob (as in unorganized group of individuals) which without actually coordinating overtly are practically bullying this guy / gal because they want them to basically shut up already. This mob believes they are doing the right thing - there are unwritten rules you see: Thou shall not post repeatedly (unless it's anti Steam or Anti DRM), or Thou shall not derail (unless it's via jokes and non sequiturs) - and it does not even cross their minds they might be in a position of power, and practically (if not intentionally) abusing that power.



How about some tolerance folks? Are greene's posts that threatening? Why do you care so much about not letting them have their say, and making sure you make them feel they should leave? If you believe they're trolling, you're only feeding them.

If you can't make love instead of war, at least stop being nasty. Is it really that difficult? The other guy is right - you are acting like SJWs. There is a better way.

Zeo, how would you feel if every of your puzzles or riddles got downvoted because the community disapproves of puzzles?

I saw a similar community enforced rule of sorts in a blog. It worked for a while, and helped new blood rejuvenate the discussions. it didn't last long though, eventually someone abused it, and it only takes a few rotten apples...

Because as said before, green dude keeps brute forcing his issues in every post he makes, in every thread he posts in. Even if the subject at hand is totally divorced from his agenda.

It's annoying and grating and even worse, he doesn't take notice or even listens to the objections. Instead he just doubles down and plays the victim, because woe is him, everybody here is so mean.

Makes it hard to care about anything dtgreene posts when he disregards all arguments against him and picks out things that for some reason offend him.

I keep it to the right place. I make threads for this or ask before giving them out, I don't just shove it on somebody who didn't want it at all. If they don't want a puzzle, I don't give them one and seek out somebody who'd like one instead.

I honestly agreed with you for the longest time, but dtgreene just keeps pushing it too far. This wouldn't be an issue if it weren't a topic that's rife with political turmoil. It attracts even MORE trolls who just come to hate on the message he's bringing, which only makes things even worse. This is why a few political threads have had to be closed down by the staff, because things got so out of hand and there was so much mudslinging, it turned into a direct fight. That's the LAST thing I want to see on this forum, which is usually a nice place.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to believe he's a bad dude at all. But he's just shown signs of increasing ignorance and inappropriateness, which is not healthy at all.
I don't want this to turn into the LAST political thread where everything turned into ad hominem attacks and a few of the users literally hired a group to downvote random posts of a list of users, which, judging from the current ratings of nearly the entire thread, is what could be happening. If he's that sensitive about his number, he, and you, can keep it for all I care.

I feel that this thread's going downhill fast, so I'm backing out. I don't want to participate in fights, nor do I like publicly discussing politics.

Surely a smart guy like you sees greene's first post here was very much on topic and not inappropriate at all? Why did you feel the need to rant at him like that?
