What is your favorite game with large-scale battles?

Any time period, theater of war, and doesn't have to be on GOG (since most aren't).
As a main feature having colossal fights, I can only remember Shadow of the Colossus. (I know there's that game, Praey of the Gods, but I never played it)

If it's sporadic colossal fights, I can't remember many either, but it'd probably be Final Fantasy X, then followed by Ultimate Ninja 3 (PS2) and Dragon's Crown (PS Vita, PS3 & PS4).

Then there's the games with just a few colossal battles, but the ones I remember usually involve major bosses or even the final bosses.

By large scale I think the OP means armies battling one another.

Ah, I see. Then probably Valkyria Chronicles. I quite like the game's premise of defeating far bigger battalions (some times dozens more and far better equipped) with tactics instead of brute force.

Also about my previous comment, the game has a colossal fight as well, but it's pretty stressful. Even with a lot of save and reloading mid battle, some times things need to go more perfect than they do in tutorial videos for max rank. There's really no room for mistakes in that battle.
I'm hopeless when it comes to real-time strategy, but I still enjoy them on occasion. One of them is Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, a science fantasy spin-off of Rise of Nations. Being a Microsoft-published title, the chances of a GOG are not good. Heck, it's not even on Steam and Microsoft's own store, while the Extended Edition of "vanilla" Rise of Nations is.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

The battles could get downright ridiculous, moreso than any RTS I've played, and if you looked closely you'd always see one or multiple of the game's large library of sync kills going on.

There's a very early E3 video that's unfortunately a bit difficult to track down these days, that captures the mood perfectly (colours a bit off though) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3xOqK0_mTk

Outside of RTS? Probably Mount and Blade: Warband
Cossacks. Almost any other RTS look pale in comparison.
I enjoyed the large scale battles in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Gathering up enormous armies and seeing the Disruptor-tanks melt everything was always satisfying. Pretty much all C&Cs hit the spot for this, but TS is the one I played the most.

Seconded. Also one of the few games where the "rock-paper-scissors" rule quickly becomes painfully apparent if you don't produce a balanced army or use the right tactics.
Hello kai2!

Recently, I watched some scenes from the game "LEGO: The Lord of the Rings" (unfrotunately, still not on GOG.com) in youtube and was surprised how well they feature the movies' large-scale battles with lots of LEGO Figurines on screen.

Take for instant the opening confrontation with Sauron's forces in the Prologue. Sure they limit the playable area, which is accessible to the player. Nonetheless, the depiction is reminiscent of the iconic movies.

Here is a recording of a (complete) playthrough without annoying commentary:

[There is a timestamp index for the chapters or levels of the game.]

Would be nice, to see this one added to GOG.com's catalogue!

Any Total War game

Sid Meier' Gettysburg and sequels

Ultimate General

Scourge of War series, Waterloo etc...

American Conquest

Kohan series
Uhhhh...
Close Combat?
Stellaris for me. One of the many things that attracted me to that game was the ability to, at least in later stages, create huge space fleet battles. I'm a sucker for huge, epic space battles and being able to really craft them in a game that already emphasizes player freedom and roleplaying in a stellar scenario really was what sold me on it.

I had never heard of the Scourge of War games. Thanks!
Large scale battles lend themselves to real time as opposed to turn based so I rule out CiV4 Beyond the Sword which I enjoy, but doesn't have that large scale feel even though you may be at war with multiple enemies across vast terrain.

The real time combat in the newest Master of Orion release is impressive if you take control of the battles manually and the number of ships involved are many.

The Blitzkrieg series can be challenging when the enemy comes at you in force.
