2nd fav series is GTA, though there are at least 3 releases I could do without.

The Lost and Damned and Vice City Stories were a chore, and Liberty City Stories was average at best.

nightcraw1er.488: Resident evil1-4.
I'm curious - do you include Code: Veronica in this?
I probably would have said the Tomb Raider series, but I've recently (last 2-3 years) discovered Spiderweb Software games, so at the moment, I'm gonna have to go with the Geneforge series.

EDIT: As much as I love The Sims, SimCity and RollerCoaster Tycoon, I can remember Lara Croft above any Sim out there, I suck at SimCity games, and only really play RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. I also love adventure games, but couldn't choose which series I liked the best - they all have their good bits and bad bits.

dtgreene:
Just an FYI...

Game Informer just ran an article on the SaGa series:

https://www.gameinformer.com/rpg-grind-time/2019/11/11/the-saga-series-dares-to-be-different-and-thats-why-its-special
Without any doubt, the Dragon Quest series. Not everything DraQue related is good, but I even enjoy what I consider an average title. I equally love the in-game lore and all the anecdotes and behind the scene stories regarding the making of the games and the 3 people behind all this (Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama).

kai2: Big budget AAA to tiny obscure indie -- what is your favorite game series?
So many to choose from:

For FPS-RPG hybrids: System Shock 1/2, and also Bioshock 1/2(didn't play infinite yet) & Deus Ex(classic and the one new one Human Revolution....still have to play the other new one).

For stealth games: Thief 1/2/reboot(didn't finish 3 yet), and some of the older Splinter Cell games like Chaos Theory(my favorite so far as it is fun but not too tough or unforgiving as the first 2 and doesn't have a time limit like double agent does).

For old style top down RPGs: The old Exile games(and somewhat the new avernum games) from Spiderweb Software. I only finished 3 and played parts of 1/2/Blades(exile), and loved 3 so much I played it a few more times over the years.

Also Diablo 2 and 1, plus 3.

For DS story games: I love Phoenix Wright Series(did up to game 3's ending), and I also like the more puzzle focused Professor Layton Series(done till the end of The Last Specter).

For survival horror: Resident Evil 2(finished it), 0, 3, 1, and even 4...plus Code: Veronica and the one on the boat which iirc was in first person.

There's probably many more i'm missing/forgetting.

TheMonkofDestiny: There was a time when I would've said Final Fantasy, but then IX and X had to go and... exist and that put the lights out on that one.

So, I dunno... nothing, I guess. It's hard to put faith in a whole series and expect it to remain consistently good.

Actually, wait. I take that back. Myst, just a little bit.
FFX is awesome.....yer opinions is meh.

Deus Ex probably. Love the original and Human Revolution a ton, and the other two quite a lot too. Cyberpunk has been a favorite of mine since watching Blade Runner as a kid. Stealth, FPS and RPG are the genres I play and Deus Ex has all three in one game.

Fallout, Thief, Elder Scrolls and Monkey Island would probably round out a top 5.

Of course it is man, I'm the "arbiter o' fart" after all.

Something funny though - whenever I bring up the two Final Fantasy titles that drew my attention away from the series, people have always told me that IX was the one that was good. Everything everyone's said of X was always "well, I liked X" and I've been able to respect that.

The full truth is, I tried with IX. I got to the end of the first disc and just couldn't bring myself to go back. With X, once I hit the "power up those ultimate weapons" bit I immediately went "arf this, I'll just play Tactics Advance on the GBA instead".
Probably the Yakuza "Like a Dragon" games. Humor, action, and most of all great cast of mugs.

Eh, for today's homework you are to play blitzball until you learn all the stats by heart......then maybe you'll like it as much as I do. ;D

As for 9....sadly I never played it.....I was more into the ones I got ahold of(7/10/12/some of the originals).

And here I am, saying that the decline of the series started with FF6 (that is, FFVI).

I am curious if you have played and like the Job systems for FF 4 Heroes of light and Bravely Default games? (Ds & 3DS)

It's probably an opinion on par in terms of popularity as my own I'd imagine. You just drew a line before the modern titles. I love VIII too much to do that to myself though.

I played the PC port of the DS remake of IV though and found myself not disliking it, surprisingly. I'm not a huge fan of the art style compared to the sprites I grew up with but it's something I can live with. I was even surprised to find I didn't hate the inclusion of voice acting in the cutscenes.

I haven't played those games. I avoided the 3DS due to region locking and DRM on digital downloads (also avoided the DSi for the same reasons), and for whatever reason never got that particular FF game for the regular DS (though I got DS versions of both 3 and 4).

The Bravely Default games are on my list of games to try once I am comfortable emulating a 3DS (or if they're released in a DRM-free form I consider acceptable), along with Legend of Legacy (and apparently one other game from that developer) and the 3DS Etrian Odyssey games (I played the DS entries, and I would rank them 3 > 1 > 2). Of course, another DS game I haven't played that I might want to at some point is Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, and I actually own a legal retail copy of that game (I love the soundtrack, and when playing Elminage Gothic, even replaced its batthe theme with Strange Journey's) (to be clear, only the DS version, not its 3DS remake that apparently exists).
Sinaria - OH wait you meant series

Witcher - Obviously
Umm... Gothic
Umm... Two worlds series - Ghost creatures of a night ROCK!

Oh and Risen although a LOT of people hated that series ?!?
