I didn't remember the egg scene either (it's a film a saw a few times, but that I've listened to way more often - what a gorgeous soundtrack). It's not the Howling. It's a whole other league, and, I'd say, genre.

Ever see The Howling 2?
It makes Ed Wood look like Citizen Kane.

Just to give you an idea, it stars Reb Brown who played Yor, the Hunter From the Future.

Given the rise of the fascist right and its fake populism this should be an easy one for most film buffs. If you haven't seen this - not only should you watch it - you should probably buy a copy for those hopeless friends.

Hints:

-1950s
-Famous American Director that Named Names during the McCarthy witch hunt.
-1st Feature for the Lead Actor (an oscar-worthy performance wildly unlike the parts he's known for)
-Lead Character is based on several real-life personalities
-Is on the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress
