Based on your hints I typed "girls gun zombie 2 games" and THIS was the first picture google gave me. I think I need some kind of pills or electrocution or something... WHAT WAS THAT?!

Anyway a few pictures later I found the answer. It's Gun Girl 2. It wasn't worth it though ;) Somebody please take my turn. I feel... not perfectly well... or something ;)

If I type your keywords into Google, the first pic I get is a banner for Gun Girl 2, which is the correct answer, of course. Must be Google spying on you and reacting according to your preferences. ;)

I tied it with "google.de" and got what you described. But still this dreadful image was the third one. Try google.pl and you will get this as the first one. I investigated it further - this site contains some kind of list of cellphone games and one of them is marked with this picture. I guess all of those keywords appear on this web page and therefore it was highly ranked.

Gah I'll happy play 8 and 16Bit console games on emulators but even I couldn't handle playing a game that was entirely ASCII, I don't think...

Judging by number of colors and CPL the game is actually pretty new. I didin't and still don't mind playing ASCII games. The only problem is that there are just too many of them and too similar to each other...

There are a lot of 'g' characters.. is it a prequel to Goblins?

Nope. No right guess yet. Hint: it's not a standard roguelike (there is a lot more strategy involved than in normal roguelikes)
