That's why I don't bother with any surveys any more. They're all biased. Even if you sort of agree with a point, it is worded in a way that indicates what the surveyor wants, not what you want. Fill-in-the-blank responses (like the one on the first page of the referenced survey) are just there to allow people to vent. Even if they read it, the only way you'll ever see a consistent response is if there is a coordinated external campaign. This means that they can safely ignore those responses in favor of what they wanted you to say (i.e., the actual checked items). Most store surveys are even worse. They just want to use their surveys to feign customer satisfaction with whatever decisions they made.

I do agree with, putting the wording of galaxy 2nd instead 1st though. As in, Galaxy should be the after thought, not offlinw installs.I can understand the concern.

Is this a thing? Are there any games that allow you to save your progress but only when using Galaxy?

For some epic games with such problems all you need to do is to provide an ID via command line parameters. It does not even matter which one in most cases. I can't confirm however that this works for Alien Isolation, I haven't tried, since I own the game on GOG. The best way would be to start the game using the launcher and write down the command line parameters used. Then put these in the 'offline' link.


Not exactly, not on GOG so far. Saints Row 3 Remaster however does not save most options if it's not launched from Galaxy. The solution is to start the game using Galaxy, set the graphical options and key bindings, then quit it and start it without Galaxy. GOG staff told us they would look into it, but it was never fixed.
I don't know if the game supports it at all (SR3 classic doesn't), because I never tried to do that, but it would also be questionable if character designs can be stored and restored without Galaxy.

I bought the game on GOG too. More than happy to throw more money at Sega if they choose to release more games here.

If memory serves, GOG has never implemented any way to access a lot of their "goodie" packs, or any serial keys, via Galaxy. (Maybe owned movies, too; I don't remember.) There's probably also still a handful of games that they were never able to integrate with (i.e., make installable through) the client.
Even if GOG wanted to take away standalone installers completely (and it wouldn't surprise me if there are or have been those in positions of influence with CDPG that have at least suggested that), I don't know that they have the technical capability right now to give Galaxy 100% capability parity with what can be done via their site in a regular browser, and that would probably be the bare minimum they'd need to fix before even seriously contemplating trying to take away standalone installers (which would probably be a very damaging move for them anyway).

Basically, I think we're safe for now in that regard.

I agree with the premise of your OP.

But I'm not sure how, exactly, GOG thinks it is going to continue to be able to sell enough games to avoid bankruptcy if & when they give up on offering DRM-free offline installers. That is literally their only worthwhile selling point.

One would think that big decision-makers at GOG are well-aware of that fact. But apparently they aren't?

"Having no plans to" isn't at all the same thing as a guaranteed promise that they definitely never will, for example.

And plans can always change. The plan of today is not necessarily the same plan that will also be in place tomorrow.
Galaxy doesn't let you do that either. You can rollback your installed game to earlier versions, but it doesn't let you download earlier versions of the offline installers.

How did you do that before Galaxy was introduced?

I am aware of that. It's a crutch (downgrading and making a backup of a game directory), but it might work in some cases. IDK - I don't use Galaxy, and never will.
