I'm an older fellow and recently upgraded my laptop to a reasonable spec one with the intention of playing games again. i like FPS,single player, offline. I was happy to find GOG and immediately got the original Far Cry and Crysis. I've also got FEAR so i guess this is an example of the games i like. No mucking around...just get in and blow stuff up. that's all i want to do.
Anyway, after reading a few lists of best FPS i just got STALKER Call of Pripyat and i hate it! too slow and too much mucking around for me. after further reading i think it is classed as a FPP and not a FPS is thi correct? So i gather anything that is a FPP will be a game i don't like.
Anyone got any suggestions for games as listed above, i'll add that i love DOOM 2016 but that us about as complicated as i want to get.
Any help would be good. Thanks.
If you hate first person perspective, the easiest way to check is to look at the screenshots and see if they show your character.
Let me put it this way, ANY FPS wld be FPP but not all FPP r FPS, dunno if that make sense 2 u but if u just like FPS basically all of them r FPP so it wld be wrong 2 say FPP will be a game u dun like.

Btw, games r not classified as FPP but FPS, RTS, RPG & so on. FPP is just a way 2 describe the view in which ur character in the game appear as. There r games that allows 4 both FPP & TPP (Third-Person Perspective) as well.

Anyway, the best way 2 know if u wld like 2 play a game is 2 read up the reviews abt the game on the web & check out any vids/in-game trailer of the game. U can also dl demos of the game if available 2 try it out 1st.

My go-to suggestion when considering any game is to watch a Let's Play (LP) of that game. You can find LPs for any game you want, usually done by numerous players. An LP will not only show you actual gameplay, but the LPer may add additional insight into gameplay, talk about game features, development, etc.
I like watching MLG P2P MP F2P FPS & RTS LPs, followed by some R&R with MLB & PBR, all while wearing my DIY S&M MLP costume. (BRB, am AFK on my PVP TPP MMORPG.)
FPP: The first person perspective that the game is played from. Not all games use this perspective, but many do. There's also third person perspective, and some games (like text-based games) that can't really be categorized this way.

FPS: The number of video frames the game (or video) can display in a second. Many gamers prefer their games to be running at 60 FPS. Note that, for some really old games (like the text based games I mentioned before, or ASCII roguelikes), it doesn't make sense to talk about FPS.

(Wait, this wasn't the type of FPS you were referring to? Seems someone has co-opted that acronym to refer to a specific genre of video games.)

By the way, is Slime Rancher a FPS? What FPS does it run at?

I really, really hate when people do this. FPS (frames per second) is the unit of measure; framerate is the thing being measured. Saying something like your (presumably) facetious "What FPS does it run at?" example sounds exactly as dumb as asking of a car's top speed, "How many MPH can it go?" X(
Stalker is more like first person shooter+rpg + survival.

From what I can understand from your post, what you want basically is run and gun first person shooter.

Duke nukem, shadow warrior 2013 , Doom, Clive baker undying are some that I enjoy. You might like some of them

FPP - First Person Perspective - this is just a description of the "view" on the game world. Many games have FPP, including most "walking simulators" which would be the opposite of what you are looking for in a game ;-)
FPS - First Person Shooter - basically an action game with FPP. (And yes, FPS can also mean "frames per second".)

If you look for fast paced FPS here on GOG I suggest you take a look at the Quake series (excluding Q3A which is MP only).
If you don't mind dated games, there's of course Doom (1+2+Final). Doom 3 might be too slow for you.

Then there's games like Serious Sam and Painkiller which are fast and simple, but not everybody likes them, because they work a bit different: You enter an area, hordes of enemies spawn and when you kill them all the next area opens up. Some people call them "arena shooters". They can be great fun, but I personally favour the classic approach more.

Games like STALKER are more of a genre mix. They qualify as FPS in the way that they have FPP and you are shooting stuf, but they add a lot more stuff exploration, trading, tactics. I personally love them, but they are in no way simple fun.

Anyone else want to see him or her say those lines five times fast in a youtube video?
though I had known the term first person perspective, I thought FPP meant first person platformer.

makes more sense the perspective way.

Get the others in the series, Far Cry 2, FEAR 2, Crysis Warhead, if you didn't already.

Personal favourites that I recommend to everyone are Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Painkiller series, Clive Barker's Undying and Unreal Tournament series. Another great game for me, that I believe not many like, is Unreal 2.

Serious Sam, Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 and The Suffering are good too.

Games that I didn't play yet but might be good are Singularity, Rise of the Triad (2013) - got this one for free, and BloodRayne 1 & 2 - got them really cheap in a sale.
Based on the games you've mentioned that you like, you should definitely check out Hard Reset.

Singularity is a brilliant little game. It lasts only around 10 hours but it has a cool and clever story that doesn't take itself too seriously at the same time. Play this next!

The BloodRaynes are TPP, I believe. (Also not sure how much in the way of shooting there is.)

I don't know that either. I'll tell you, if I got to play it anytime soon. :D
