So I go back and play F4... and played about a minute or two with no screen issues and then it just.... crashed. To desktop.

I've owned and played this game since Feb 2016 with nearly 2000 hours into it. That's. The. First. Time. Fallout 4. Has. Crashed. First time ever.

(Re)install the latest version of you graphics driver. I had Win10 overwrite mine during the latest edition update (actually it reverted to its own outdated version) - a lovely behavior really which caused a lot of issues until I figured out what the hell had happened. It doesn't happen to everyone though.

WinterSnowfall: Oh and there was one more thing they changed in the latest Windows 10 update, which forces your game to run in Windowed Fullscreen even if it's traditionally an exclusive mode Fullscreen game.

If you go to the Control Panel (PC Settings), you'll notice a new "Gaming" section. Click on that and make sure all the useless stuff there is turned off/unticked, especially the "Show Game bar when I play full-screen games Microsoft has verified" option.
Well I just did this and sure enough the Game Bar setting was set to on. So I ticked it off and will go back into Fallout 4 again. Why the fuck did they add this? Games already come with their own settings and then there's also the Nvidia panel and now Microsoft wants to add ANOTHER layer of settings??? So frustrating.

Why did they add telemetry, the App Store and a gazillion of other things? You're the new product, and the OS is just their interface to tap into your behavioral data which they can exploit for marketing purposes, resell and so on. Wear a tin foil hat and they might not get into your mind!

OldFatGuy: My problem with Steam screenshots (F12 wasn't it??) is where to find the dam thing after it's taken. I'll try.

darthspudius: I agree, sounds like a graphics driver issue. Try update that before laying blame on Win10. FYI I haven't got any new updates either.

UPDATE: Well it turns out I may not be able to blame Microsoft for this after all. Fallout 4 also had an update of some sort today (I didn't even realize it until I read it on the forum and looked at my downloading history and sure enough F4 updated today). I swear I seem to get coincidences like no one else. Same day... Windows update and F4 update and now F4 is completely unplayable (I just tried again... the tearing is so bad I can't watch it) and I have no idea which is the root of the problem. I'm going to try some new (different) graphics drivers as that's the only thing I know to try now. I have forced VSync on in the Nvidia panel... I have resinstalled the current driver... I have verified the F4 files.... if it's now unplayable on the EX ACT same laptop, monitor, settings as I played yesterday and the day before (and the day before and the day before etc. etc. etc) then all the words in the world can't describe just how pissed I am. 2000 hours of gameplay...
You can check in Windows 10 Settings what exatctly updated yesterday on your system.

Settings => Update & Security=> Windows Update => View installed update history

OFG, do you have any mods installed? If so, the update may have broken some things (apparently the F4SE doesn't work anymore).

As far as the content, from what I've been able to find out it's some Creation Club updates and support for pets. So nothing terribly interesting. No word on whether there are bug fixes.
Congratulations OP, you bought a Bethesda game, known for notorious stability, iron sold programming, and generally good craftsmanship.

From the same people who brought you, "Whoops, fell out of the dungeon geometry" and " putting a bucket on their head prevents them from alerting anyone".

...is genius!
Yeah. That's typical Bethesda quality. If you managed to not have any issues for that long with one of their games, consider yourself a person with a very high Luck rating.

Regardless, I myself am so sick of Windows at this point that I'll be abandoning ship in the coming weeks once my final parts get here and then I'll be switching to Linux.
