That's not really how communication works. Being playful is one thing, but, this is just plain lazy. As far as I can tell, including reading her own post on the matter, this isn't an intentional act of playing with conventional grammar and spelling. I appreciate the playful use of language, but peppering virtually every sentence with multiple global and local errors is not playful. Playful is exchanging some of the words or spellings in a mindful way for some purpose. Poetry is not easy, otherwise everybody would be doing it and the method of speech doesn't say anything particularly compelling.

Additionally, in most of those cases, the writer is writing to an audience that has to seek it out and for most of human existence had to pay for it, rather than having it delivered, commingled, with things that the reader wants to read.

It's attention seeking behavior and I probably should just ignore it, but it's been all over the place.

Her posting, definitely does cost you and anybody else that comes across one of those posts something cognitively. It's one more decision that you have to make during the day, if you ignore it, and quite a bit if you take what should be clear written text, translating it into sounds, identifying which word it should be and then interpreting the message. That's a lot more work than you seem to realize and for those that are not native speakers of English or who have learning disorders, it's a ton of work.

The real problem is that this forum is turning into said high crime neighbourhood. You're not safe unless you're one of them, unless you share their opinions. Not a fun place to be.

It's bizarre to see you say that, knowing you've done the exact same to others on numerous occasions.

I've watched you make extremely serious accusations against people because they didn't see things your way. Whether or not you reported their posts, I don't know, and don't care. You showed very clearly that you have no capacity to empathize with people you deem unacceptable, and that's exactly the accusation that your leveling against people who are critical of Fairfox. And you clearly have no capacity for self-reflection, because if you did, you'd recognize that you're a hypocrite.

I'm guessing I must have missed this. I have had several disagreements with other forum members but it never escalated into pettiness (Edit: Well, mostly anyways). Some of those disagreements we're entirely subjective too so there was no point is trying to prove who was "right". I never participated in the political discussion threads either but I know those got heated and remember seeing some of them getting locked.

Incidentally, I think the only person on the forum to put words in my mouth and came across as confrontational was Fairfox herself. It was in a discussion about expressing and taking critism 1-2 years ago.

Yes, it's just about eccentricity. Plenty of other users have had disagreements (I even recently evoked one fairfox position that I considered pretty loathsome), and have brought up more or less politicizing points in different threads, yet aren't chased around forever to get their gaming discussions downrepped to hell. Also, she was antagonized by repugnant creeps of the whole political spectrum.

It's just that she was an easy target for the hypercorrection of self-righteous cunts of all ilk. They need such targets in order to validate themselves, and they'll find another one pretty soon.

Seriously, working in gog.com and having such trashy humans as customers must be truly depressing. But I come more and more to expect this from the videogaming demographics. I learn, what the gog forums teaches about people.

I disagree with "lazy". There are plenty of people more or less butchering german (my mother tongue) every day, because they are dumb, lazy or both. I don't mind dumb. A brain has limits. If it happens to have limits lower than "average" for certain things (or all of them), that is just how it is. No shame in it. Being lazy is (in my opinion and observation) a chosen attitude that states "let someone else take care of that for me". What I mean is, I find people being lazy with language usually are lazy in many (if not all) other things they feel have to be done by someone else for them, because it's not worth their precious time.
That said, I am not a native english speaker, but I could very well see, that Fairfox's posts are not lazy. The amount of wrong spelling practically screams it. If you know how to spell a word right (which usually happens automatically with your mother tongue), you usually write it correctly out of habit or automatically think on it for a second if you are not sure right away. Going against that "automatism" is effort not laziness.
I don't know why she/he writes that way and I don't really care. Reading the first line of Fairfox's posts told me who wrote it. A quick look to the side (name/avatar) would confirm it. If I wanted to know what is written, I would "read the sound" and figure out what words are meant that way. If I didn't want to know, I wouldn't.

That brings me back to the "lazy" part. It is no-ones job, but my own, to make my life easier. Desicions are an integral part of life. If that is already too much for you (general you not specifically you), you have far greater problems than people with bad spelling (or other -for you- annoying things). Those people should also have learned by now, that the internet is to be avoided, if life itself is already overwhelming.

People with bad spelling don't worry me. What does worry me, is the fact, that people are "training/conditioning" themselves to be inable to protect themselves from things they deem harmful to themselves. "Ignore" buttons, "block" buttons, "downvote" buttons are used on mundane things, because they are incapable of ignoring things on their own, because they "conditioned" themselves to have to read everything and have to respond to everything. That is unhealthy. Real life doesn't have those buttons.

Except that when a user's "break" is due to the ("civil" or not) toxicity of your customer base, you may have a problem.

All I can say of the matter is simply that her posts didn't disturb me, unlike some of the blatant vitriol that gets thrown around from time to time. It is true that however that after a while trying to decipher her language I simply started reading past some of her posts to the next one. It is unavoidable that if you make your posts too difficult to read that some people will stop reading. I'm pretty tolerant with spelling, grammar and punctuation. I make mistakes all the time, whether it be because of a failure of my education or due to my clumsy fingers, and I attempt to edit my posts when I spot anything obvious. Do I pick on those who don't? No. Do I abuse the ratings system and downrate a difficult to read post? No.

We all have equal right to be here on this free to join, GOG-owned forum. And until the blues say otherwise, we are free to use creativeness in our speech and lingo to do so. You know that there is nothing stopping you from creating your own forum and moderating it as you see fit, or leaving to join another forum whose rules demand perfect structured English. If how Fairfox communicated was fine for the blues, then who am I to say otherwise?
