FlockeSchnee: For what? How were you supposed to know? The "girly" seeming username? You don't know why I choose that. Could have been any reason even as a "he". What I am trying to say: It is all perfectly fine. And I just noticed, I assumed you are a "he". Glad, you don't seem offended by that either.

dtgreene: Of course, this issue could be solved if users here would follow my example and put their pronouns in their forum title.

(There's still the problem of getting people to actually *read* the forum title, but this way other users at least have a *chance* of reading it and using the correct pronouns.)

Edit: "actually" is not spelt with a semicolon; "actuall;y" is not a word. Oops!
OK. I not only found the option but also acutally used it. Even though I will probably "vanish back into the shadows again" soon. I'm more of a lurker than a poster.

Linko90: The punchline would be banning you :P

But really, not every user who becomes inactive is banned, some just simply stop posting.
That's why I'm not a mod here, I'd change the avatar to a horse's ass.

Say what you will about the moderation here, but it does seem to be reasonably consistent.

Telika: It's hilarious in a way.

This thread is exactly like one slightly odd kid leaving school due to the hostility of the classmates, and all the children attempting to justify it because "she started it anyway / he looked weird / she had that accent / he was effeminate / she wore odd clothes / he had strange hair / she had freckles / he had that annoying tic / she just wouldn't understand that we don't like her". Kids nodding at each others in front of their sighing parents.

Humanity in a test tube. Everything I detest most about it, concentrated on display.
Here's the thing, by her own admission she can do better, she just got lazy about it.

If there were some reason to believe that she were suffering from some sort of cognitive impairment or learning disorder, that would be one thing, but she didn't used to post like she does now. I took a break from here for a bit and when I came back, I saw tons of "gamies" threads and the like.

People on an international forum are going to have issues at times with spelling and grammar, but there's a point at which you might as well be posting in a foreign language as at least Google Translate can handle some of that.

fronzelneekburm: Woah, what the hell...

Her entire posting history is wiped. All of her posts say "deleted".

Actually, I would like a mod (or someone in touch with Fairfox) to clarify what exactly is going on. I figured she was "having a break", as one of the mods put it earlier. All of her posts getting nuked is pretty hardcore for "having a break"...

wpegg: They did it for Gameon a few years ago (before GDPR). Nowadays legally anyone can request that, under GDPR GOG have to allow you to control the data they have.

It would have been user-requested, as has already been made clear.
I've got mixed feelings about that. Culturally, we're already suffering from a sort of amnesia as it becomes increasingly hard to find older, less popular information due to search engines trying to give people what they think we want rather than what we ask for.

In this case, it's less of an issue, but in some cases it can lead to threads that make absolutely no sense as the thread gets cleaned.

I suppose, although if one really cares about that, it would probably make more sense to use one of the genderless pronouns as you can't particularly trust anybody to tell the truth about their pronoun on the internet for various reasons.

Pretty sure the content isn't yours anymore after you press that "post" button. (I think) GDPR would require the people in power to delete your personally identifiable information which means email, nickname, IP addresses of posts and other such things. So what could remain would be a placeholder called "guest" or something for these posts. Other forums handled it like that way before GDPR was ever a thing.

Also, some stuff that was written in the last few pages really makes you want to roll your eyes. So much black-and-white thinking. Unless one is talking about specific things which have a 0 and 1 state, it's pretty much always a spectrum. People have different reasons for downvoting a person (also, there is no definition of when such a button can be used) while at the same time people have different relations with a person (that includes having no relation). Additionally, just because someone doesn't post somewhere to make his/her voice known, it doesn't mean they don't exist.
@FlockeSchnee: (Ignoring the nonsensical parts you wrote) Real life and the internet are very much different.

toxicTom: Seems she really was an important part of this little world here, one way or another.
avatar
Telika: Actually not really. I liked her games topics, and some of her opinions, and didn't like some others (at all).

But an important part of my little world is how people react to harmless atypical traits. This is something I'm sensitive to, on many matters - racism, homophobia, and the most mundane things [1]. The objects of in-group out-group identities and validations, their mechanisms, at any subcultural levels. In this case I find fascinating how it transcends the traditional identity oppositions (left/right markers) by revolving around a trait that isn't on the predefined list of what progressives and conservatives are already "supposed" to reject or accept. So it illustrates a behaviour common to a certain kind of person throughout all accidental ideological identities.
You know what? How about we just don't care about identity politics? Why do some people want to put other people into certain drawers marked "left", "right", "black", "white", "liberal" etc etc? It's idiotic. People can't be put into drawers unless they are really, really shallow which isn't the case pretty much all the time. Sure, I know identity politics have been pushed in the US for a few decades by the people in power to protect their interests and I know it's been seeping into Europe lately (unfortunately) but as halfway intelligent human beings we should be able to see past that and notice what we are, what others are and what those politics are designed for (which is easy, just follow the trail of money/look for the people who profit from it). For differences between pushing such politics and having no politics, just look at the reactions regarding the Ghost in the Shell movie casting issue from the US side and the Japanese side (which are actually the party "affected").
It's not hard to see her online and deleting/editing her own posts, people. The mods aren't deleting them. They would have more important tasks than to sit there and do that.

"Halfway intelligent human beings" love to think of themselves as rational and unbiased, but that's just a story we tell ourselves. Sticking your head in the sand doesn't stop socially defined identities that are coercively applied (for example, race) from having a real impact on people's everyday lives. Ignoring these issues is not a workable solution, but if you feel like you're able to do so, then you're probably not the person who's getting shafted by them.

You seem to have misunderstood my post. Like I said, the powers that are in place are pushing those politics and are thus socially defining it since they have a lot of reach/influence (everyone consumes media after all). About that ignoring part....I said exactly the opposite if you read carefully. People need to stop and think, reflect on the things as they are. Instead, they are affected by the beat of drums, pushing them in one direction or another.

Some do, and very far back dates at that, yes some don't show modify by, a bug perhaps ?
Either way a large amount of old posts now show deleted and edited by her.
My guess a bug.
Pretty strange that , allowing someone to wipe out their profile could have ramifications ...

I saw it with my own eyes and only looked out of curiosity because of another post saying they were deleted. She was online and doing it to herself. If it shows a different time then as per usual it could be a bug.

Lucumo: @FlockeSchnee: (Ignoring the nonsensical parts you wrote) Real life and the internet are very much different.
Of course you are "ignoring the nonsensical parts" otherwise you would have to reflect on your coping mechanism and/or actually try for reason than sticking to your favorite smokescreens.

I never claimed real life and internet to be 100 % identical, but the priciples are the same. Except that internet makes it a whole lot easier to just ignore the things that annoy you. After all a roommate/neighbor/whoever is "right there with you". Simple ignoring might not work. Real life coping is always a situational thing whereas internet is mostly the same. Either you read somehing, even though you already know this user annoys you, or you don't. If you insist on reading it regardless, it is solely your fault for getting annoyed; you didn't have to read it. (You walk up to a steep cliff, you see it is a steep cliff and continue to walk up anyway and eventually fall down that cliff. You happen to survive and all you can say is "It's the cliff's fault".) The whole "it shouldn't have been there in the first place" reasoning is leading nowhere, because it was there and that obviously wasn't going to change. So instead of bashing your head against reality, you should find a way that acutally deals with the situation at hand. Like avoiding that post/steep cliff altogether. And yes, I am aware people feel they have to read/react, because they have "conditioned" themselves to feel that way. I already mentioned it before. I also mentioned that this worries me. Even more so because apparantly they can't even see it or actively choose not to see it. Not to mention they deny this is the case, because they feel the desperate need to cling to their self-delusions like some shining armor they believe prevents them from drowning, even though it is that very armor which is drowning them.

I don't know about those technical/programming things. But they might have a tool that does it for them. If there was a tool to mass report and such, it is not entirely impossibe (I think, like I said, I don't know about these things).

"I saw it with my own eyes and only looked out of curiosity because of another post saying they were deleted. She was online and doing it to herself. If it shows a different time then as per usual it could be a bug."
Or she is doing it herself.

It's an interesting question, I don't think it has been tested yet, so we don't know how it would apply. Wikipedia quotes GDPR as :
According to the European Commission, "personal data is any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life. It can be anything from a name, a home address, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer's IP address."[4] The precise definitions of terms such as "personal data", "processing", "data subject", "controller" and "processor", are stated in Article 4 of the Regulation[5].

The question from that is whether GOG forums constitute "posts on social networking". It also raises the question that, given her unique writing style, are fairfox's posts uniquely identifiable in themselves? I don't think it really matters if you own the content, more whether or not you're able to be uniquely identified and associated with the content. So in most cases simply obfuscating the poster, as has been done here, should be considered sufficient, except we all still know who the poster is, because there's a thread saying "user_deleted" is Fairfox.
Its amazing that gog allowed her to nuke the history , so when she comes back its going to be a clean sheet ? Whats not stopping others with bad rep doing the same ?

What the hell ? is she manually editing her posts ?

Yep, that's definitely the crux here. Personally, I would draw the line between traditional forums and "social websites" which actually have social features or are focused on social features. Nevertheless, I can see arguments being made that consider any forums "social networking websites".
And yes, in this specific case it's clear who the deleted user was. The law wouldn't account for it, from what I would think. So it would depend on what the specific website does and what possibilities it actually has (of deleting data - a lot of forums haven't bothered with GDPR at all and are currently unable to comply). In the end, though, we will have to wait for actual rulings to get a better picture of the whole issue.
