Wew.

Half the forum against a person, half the forum in support of said person in a display of opinion exchange typically reserved for GOG mess-ups (that aren't bundling Galaxy with the installers the way it was done initially). Doesn't help that my PC crashed while writing this post once - is the thread cursed?

I don't mind Fairfox and the way she writing. Does it make me skip on her posts sometimes? Yes, I won't lie. But in my eyes, she's not even that bad of a problem, and that's without the other trolls. Add to it that the blues didn't mind her writing.

But I do read what she says oftentimes, I don't mind that she does so in this way, from what I've seen of her she's chill, although I haven't encountered some of the examples mentioned here by those against her.

Back to the topic, I do think it is strange that she shows up on the forum as "user deleted" now, which has all kinds of red signals. But she is on break, and that's just the way GOG shows this - the forums seriously need an upgrade. Like others have said, I do hope she is well on her endeavors, if not that she returns.

It's hilarious in a way.

This thread is exactly like one slightly odd kid leaving school due to the hostility of the classmates, and all the children attempting to justify it because "she started it anyway / he looked weird / she had that accent / he was effeminate / she wore odd clothes / he had strange hair / she had freckles / he had that annoying tic / she just wouldn't understand that we don't like her". Kids nodding at each others in front of their sighing parents.

Humanity in a test tube. Everything I detest most about it, concentrated on display.

It's very simple. Fareflax was spouting barely coherent posts in the English forum. Not once, but all the time. Spamming threads and generally making legibility difficult if not possible. Once in a while, it's cute and funny. All the time and it becomes goddamn annoying. Her gimmick wore out and people tired of it. That's all.

And now that she's run off pouting, some of you want to start up a hug box and pass around tissues. Take your Oprah cry couch somewhere else. Victim cards are no longer wild. Take it out of the deck and throw it in the trash. If you can't laugh off what stupid shit ppl say on the internet, then your blood pressure is probably going to be unnecessarily high for your entire life.

Maybe I should build up some undeserved sympathy by throwing my posts through a word scrambler and claim some un-diagnosed mental problem. That seems to work wonders around here.

Seems she really was an important part of this little world here, one way or another.

But it also shows that people here still care about another - even people who didn't like her or detested her style spoke up and said they don't wish her harm.
I was pretty surprised to not see any of the typical fairfox questions , discussions topics on front page thread , then saw this thread....

Being here since a longtime , it was pretty painful to see how fairfox devolved from being a excellent forum contributor[ at first i thought at her excellent posts she would certainly get to be a mod here someday] to what we painfully have had to endure for a while , i did read the reason for it yet but kinda felt it was given a bit too late... way too late...

The language she used was not a issue for everyone , the real problem was the amount of threads that she created , this meant the people had no choice not to skip her posts, if someone were to god forbid bump all the threads created by fairfox at once now you could see how annoying it is...

These threads were just ways to get more attacks on herself since she never took part in most of the threads she made apart from the first post, then requesting for a thread lock after obvious attacks, posts asking her own opinion and offensive replies to them .

Honestly i hope she gets back and i would request her that if she wishes to continue posting in the awful gibberish way please do so in a single mega thread , so that people who support can chime in there and people who dont like it can stay away from that mega thread.

If she is undergoing some personal demons , i think it would be best to close this thread and give her time to heal and get back.

I would also request mods if possible to strictly enforce proper English or at least readable English like language to be used here while posting in the general forums to prevent something like this happening again.

fronzelneekburm: ... What grates me most about this whole discussion: Even to the casual observer it would seem fairly obvious that Fairfox has some issues going on IRL. Sure, you can just go ahead and pat her on the virtual back and show how much of an ally you are by saying "Oh, Fairfox, you craay-zee! You go, girl! Never mind the haters!", but it's not going to help her any. All that her continued shitposting is going to accomplish is that she's going to have to deal with the internet hate (no matter how warranted/unwarranted you may feel it is) on top of her real life stuff. Hopefully, she realised that as well and decided that her time would be more wisely spent tackling these issues.

If you want to be an ally, I'm sure there are more constructive ways than blaming everyone who got annoyed at her increasingly bizarre posts.
I don't make asumptions about peoples real life. I'm neither a mindreader nor a seer.

I'm nobodys ally. I'm someone who has their own opinions and they either match someone elses or not. That is not "back patting".

I'm also not blaming anyone for anything. I don't even know, why Fairfox took a break. I am pointing out things I noticed though. Like "downvoting because I never learned how to cope properly with things I dislike and I don't want to because reasons".
People (especially on the internet) don't hate you because you made them hate you. They hate you because they feel the need to hate someone and they choose to hate you, because "you gave them a reason that onlookers except as valid" as your comment "If you want to be an ally, I'm sure there are more constructive ways than blaming everyone who got annoyed at her increasingly bizarre posts" shows. (EDIT: as well as yours.

) You are basically patting their virtual backs by implying that their behavior is ok, because that person brought it onto themselves. Amazing, considering you seem to dislike back patting so much.

Yes, obviously people were annoyed by her behavior. The point is, this is the internet. You can just ignore posts/people which/who frustrate you. You don't have to hate anyone and you don't have to act on that hate. If you do, it is solely because you want to. And that is your decision and no-one elses. So stop hiding behind "they made me". That is self-delusion.

FlockeSchnee: Wouldn't take non-denial as comfirmation though. MarkoH01 probably thinks I am a "he" because I didn't correct him. I just forgot to mention I'm not a "he" but a "she", but there are probably people who simply don't want to give gender confirmations/denials for personal reasons.
Sorry.
What a thread! Disliking shitty posts is now literal murder, the top self-appointed moral guardian is Mr. Rape-Is-Actually-Good, and everyone who disagrees with him is a "cunt".

Nice.

edit:
One thing I'm still legit angry about: remember when GOG shuttered the BR/PT forum and prohibited writing in BR/PT here in the (nominally English) General? That was a shitty thing to do, GOG. You advertized the service for that market, promising parity in support and community space, and you broke that promise. The closure might have been economically justified, but the least you could do is allow BR/PT posts here.

MarkoH01: Sorry.
For what? How were you supposed to know? The "girly" seeming username? You don't know why I choose that. Could have been any reason even as a "he". What I am trying to say: It is all perfectly fine. And I just noticed, I assumed you are a "he". Glad, you don't seem offended by that either.

FlockeSchnee: Well, if she said so herself, I would refer to Fairfox as a "she".

In this forum world we're all genderless walls of text. I'm sure Fairfox has gone silent for the wrong reasons, but maybe she's better off focusing on something else.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate this community most of the time, but I also feel some people are putting too much of themselves into it without realizing it. A forum is not a proper medium for non-casual social interaction. Thoughts portrayed through walls of text can't ever be your friends or adequate conversation partners.

"Ceci n'est pas une pipe". This text you're reading is not a "he" or a "she", nor is it me. Just my 2 cents.

Fairfox, if you're reading this I hope you're on track to being happy(er) IRL, having some friends over for a chat and forgetting about this place for a while.

toxicTom: IIRC she outed herself as she some time in the past. And she has been addressed as she many times and never corrected it herself, so I'm quite sure she's a she.

richlind33: Tom is correct re "downvoted" posts; you are correct re "low rated" posts.

FlockeSchnee: Ahhh. There is a difference then. Thank you for clearing that up. So there is a "threshold" mechanic at work.
I haven't seen any "downvoted" marked posts. Only "low rated" and "high rated" ones. Oh... Then I'm assuming that's probably because I didn't downvote them myself.
By "downvoted" I mean posts hidden because you downvoted them, whereas "low rated" posts are hidden by default unless you change your forum settings, as noted by InkPanther.

By golly, this thread has actually brought some good into the world! lol
Woah, what the hell...

Her entire posting history is wiped. All of her posts say "deleted".

Actually, I would like a mod (or someone in touch with Fairfox) to clarify what exactly is going on. I figured she was "having a break", as one of the mods put it earlier. All of her posts getting nuked is pretty hardcore for "having a break"...

They did it for Gameon a few years ago (before GDPR). Nowadays legally anyone can request that, under GDPR GOG have to allow you to control the data they have.

It would have been user-requested, as has already been made clear.

toxicTom: Seems she really was an important part of this little world here, one way or another.
Actually not really. I liked her games topics, and some of her opinions, and didn't like some others (at all).

But an important part of my little world is how people react to harmless atypical traits. This is something I'm sensitive to, on many matters - racism, homophobia, and the most mundane things [1]. The objects of in-group out-group identities and validations, their mechanisms, at any subcultural levels. In this case I find fascinating how it transcends the traditional identity oppositions (left/right markers) by revolving around a trait that isn't on the predefined list of what progressives and conservatives are already "supposed" to reject or accept. So it illustrates a behaviour common to a certain kind of person throughout all accidental ideological identities.

It's a bit like the taste for physical violence, that is quenched by those who require it whichever their ideology - they always find a rationalisation for self-righteous beatings of vandalism. It's a more profound identity than the conscious ones - the conscious ones are just the wrapping.

You know people from their acts and attitudes outside of their predefined, stereotyped, list of stimuli/responses. Outside of their training. In front of what their peers didn't already label as good and bad. It reveals something below their supeficial discourses and self-perceptions, something about a deep love for uniformity itself. One has learnt that it is bad to exclude a black or an homosexual because it's not a valid reason to. Throw someone with a green antenna or a blinking nose at them, and watch their reflexes. And their rationalizations. "Oh that antenna would have scratched by ceiling anyway probably maybe, ah I cannot concentrate with that blinking nose, go back to where you belong".

Crowds. It's really less about Fairfox than about gogers and their hypocrisies. About humans and their thirst for righteous, rationalized, self-validating, exclusions. "Oh noes her writing was really ruining the forums we were suffering so much it was immoral of her...".

I liked Fairfox's threads about gameplay (and I do enjoy mild, harmless eccentricity in general). But I despise those forumers more than I like her. She's just interestingly revealing of their mentality.

A mentality that she shares when it comes to fat people. Just like some other forumers, previously ostracized for their own harmless quirks, share this mentality when it comes to hers.

___________
Nahtalie Sarraute wrote a fun play called "Isma", about some people in a room badmouthing an absent person, and trying to pinpoint why they don't like her. They start mocking her way to pronounce "-isma" the words that end with "-ism", and they get on the real reasons they don't like her, and review and discard them all one by one, before concluding that her "-isma" pronounciation is actually, after all, the only real ground of their dislike, and it's enough to them.
