Gog has always been quite late when releasing games and patching (compared with steam).

But, those days are awful.

Victor Vran: has a pre-extension patch released on 25th may (thats one month).
Darkest Dungeon: several patches (5) on steam, only one on gog and latest one since 2 days now.

Really GoG, WAKE UP !

Some devs don't release small patches to GOG if their game is going through a rapid patch cycle (possible case with Darkest Dungeons?). Instead they wait and give GOG a larger patch that covers all the previous small changes/fixes.

For others, with regards to stand-alone installers, GOG wraps them in their own installer and tests them to make sure they don't break anything. Which, of course takes time.

If you're not using Galaxy, you may want to consider that, as Galaxy, like the Steam client, allows the devs to directly push patches out and you'll get them faster than if you stick with stand-alone installers.

Now, that doesn't explain all the delays, but it covers many of them. If you don't want to use a client, then I guess you're stuck with the rest of us waiting for updates.

Victor Vran was patched 3 days ago: Patch 2.07-20170619 (20 June 2017).
I do use Galaxy.

As for Victor Vran, when you click it shows 25 october 2016 ... well and patch notes are not up to date.

Anyway 20th june is still 3 weeks late.
It really depends on the game, honestly. Patches for Terraria arrive at gog at the same time as on Steam, but are generally a day or two late, because gog isn't staffed 24/7 and the devs can't push patches themselves like they can on Steam. So patches are generally available the next morning rather than immediately because of a delay on gog's end. There's no real solution to this except by having round-the-clock staff or letting devs push untested patches.

For Darkest Dungeon, however, it's just that the devs aren't releasing their patches on gog. This happens with lots of other developers as well. Because the process requires gog's oversight and serves a lot fewer customers than Steam, they just don't bother unless it's a major update, or they've had 3+ months worth of patches piling up. It sucks, especially for games with active multiplayer, but it's not like you can force the devs to care.

I give my thanks to these devs ;)
I’m no beta-tester, I don’t care about updating my game twice a day for minor fixes if I can get the whole bunch of fixes once at the end of the week.
Red Hook sent a patch for Darkest Dungeon yesterday. It was supposed to be up today but I guess there was an issue with the patch so it wasn't uploaded.

I feel your pain with Darkest Dungeon. There are several already patched bugs that unintentionally increase the difficulty severely and it would've been nice to have before the weekend.

Note: I wasn't disagreeing with your sentiment - just noting some of the reasons why there are delays. I personally find it irritating sometimes as well (I don't use Galaxy, for the record)
I know the situation with Darkest Dungeon and to be frank I did not plan to play before 1 month and stabilisation of the game (Devs already announced they will wait 1 month to release on console after major issues are identified on PC).

Yet, those were 2 examples, but this delay occurs very regularly.

As a conclusion, Gog really must ease this process. I have the feeling it is becoming worse with the time (not enough staff, too many games maybe ?). Especially as nowadays games are released in a very buggy state which was not the case in the past (not as much at least).

GOG, PLEASE WAKE UP! HE IS NOT WAKING UP! SOMEONE PLEASE CALL THE PARAMEDICS!

GOG, LISTEN TO ME! DON'T WALK TOWARDS THE LIGHT! STAY WITH US! LISTEN TO MY VOICE!

(sorry, I felt this thread needed some real drama)

I think they are easing it already, by letting devs directly upload updates to Galaxy with certain games at first.

But still the offline installers would get updates later, maybe even skipping many beta patches and then getting several patches in one bigger update.

Also, if the developer simply releases updates to the GOG version less regularly and only after the Steam version, well...

I'm fine with updates coming somewhat later to GOG versions compared to Steam version, hey sometimes I even want that the Steam users first beta test an update before it is brought to the GOG version. But if a developer refuses to release some critical and important update to GOG version, that sucks. Yeah, Slender is like that, I suggest not buying it. Heck, some developers abandon their games even on Steam.
