Sword Coast Legends was released on Oct 25, 2015 on PC and July 19, 2016 on console. The main developer of teh game, n-Space, closed in 2016 and the game was taken off stores in December 2017. Servers were shut down in July 2018.

There was a single player campaign that could be paid offline.

Anyway, there are games that continued to be sold even after servers were closed. Was it too much of a part of teh expeirence for the game to be sold?

Had a chance to buy the game on PC and console, but held off. Never expected the game to disappear that fast.

Well, here's how that happened...

n-Space was far into developing a "generic" party-based fantasy game where they were adding a DM-style element. They needed more money to finish development and Wizards wanted a D&D video game. n-Space pitched teh idea and Wizards let them use the IP license. But, with the timeframe Wizards and Hasbro wanted a release, there wasn't enough time to retool the game into a more D&D experience. So, n-Space had money to finish but not enough time. Hasbro and Wizards timeframe caused n-Space to make small changes, "reskin" models, and push teh game to market.

It's not quite as simple as you might think.

Furthermore, they likely licensed the use of the D&D trademark and as they closed shop, had to remove the game for sale because they would not be renewing the license fee.

As RWarehall noted, it was pulled from sale, but there was warning beforehand. I picked it up for something like 5 bucks just before it was pulled from sale.

Besides, they probably authorized the utilization of the D&D brand name and as they shut shop, needed to eliminate the game available to be purchased in light of the fact that they would not be recharging the permit expense.
