I buy very few games Day 1. There's always some better (more practical) use for the money, but...

... there are a few games that I would pay full price Day 1 without hesitation. For me...

1. Dragon's Dogma II. I credit the original with renewing my interest in video games, fantasy games, and the fantasy genre outside of games. I bought the first on a whim -- without knowing a thing about it -- and will easily buy a sequel Day 1.

2. God of War II. I thought GoW (2018) was brilliantly told and heartfelt. How a game about beating things up could move me to the edge of tears... Yeah, I'll buy 2 no questions.

3. I'm almost there on Spiders' games. I did buy Greedfall Day 1 and don't regret the purchase... but... not quite to the point of purchasing their games blindly.

4. Brothers in Arms 4. No Questions Asked. Randy better not disappoint me!!!!!


Games that will never happen but if they did...

1. Saboteur II.

2. LA Noire II

3. The Bureau X-COM Declassified II. This is my favorite time period for alien invasion stories... and I love the squad command FPS genre.

Yakuza games and its spin-offs, Dragon Quest titles, Devil May Cry titles. Would have said Saints Row, but damn, the trailers make it look terrible.

A couple others too, but I'm too lazy to type them all out on my mobile phone.

I bought Diablo 2 the day it came out, full price, and then I bought Diablo 2 Resurrected the day it came out at full price.

I like to keep it simple.

You didn't specify that the games are not exist at the moment in your title but your OP text strongly suggest this is how it plays.
I would buy Heretic III, Quake: Legacy of the Ancients, Wheel of Time 2, Nocturne 2: Stanger's Wrath, FEAR 4, Blood 3, Redneck Rampage 2, Duke Nukem 4, Corridor 8: Galaxy Wars.

None. I simply don't buy Day 1 anymore. AAA games typically take anywhere from 3-18 months to finish off post-release (depending on what state they were released in), whilst Indie's are often variable enough that I'd want to see what I'm buying beforehand, (ie, how does it play, are the keys rebindable, is it actually likely to be finished (looks at Pathologic 2's Bachelor & Changeling campaigns...), etc. Likewise new sequels to old games don't necessarily mean the new game will be anywhere near as good based on memories on the past.

Although I've loved all the Yakuza games I've played (even Dead Souls!), have an import Kenzan, and keep thinking of buying Ishin!...

... I've never connected enough with them to buy Day 1. At the same time, I think they are BRILLIANTLY told stories and characters.

Well, if they ever come here and the price is reasonable then maybe Star Trek Final Unity and Borg. But even that's not "no questions asked". There are some games I'm really looking forward to, but with a backlog, and over a hundred games on my wishlist, buying something full price day 1 just seems silly.

Hell, half of my wishlist is on sale right now and I'm not buying anything.

I think I have learned to be cautious about modern releases. Some time ago I thought Age of Empires IV would have been a no-brainer for me, but I'm still undecided about that one.

No, I never watched Fist of the North Star and to be honest I dislike the art style, but I was/somewhat still am tempted to get it nonetheless, because of the gameplay. :)

It's a semantics thing of course - everybody's free to define "day 1" as they please. But AFAIK, "original release (of the first version(?))" is the most used meaning/interpretation.
