I prefer when developers use their skills and talents to make new games and settings.

As for remastering, simply design engine and assets in a way, that modifications can be easily created.

Dedicated fan community is likely to update games better, than any professional studio possibly would. ;)

I think, many games could benefit from well-made modifications, as long as changes are optional and free of charge.
Arx Fatalis and Silver remastered, mainly for cosmetic reasons. If you can make that happens Orkhepaj, that'd be great.

I was going to add Master of Orion, but it looks like mods already exist. I need to check those out.
Nope.
a couple, games from my early gaming days such as Screamer 2, or Albion and Star General of course!

Orkhepaj: So do you have a favourite game they should update to modern graphics andor fix some issues ,add new features ?
List the issues fix and features you would like to get.
I'll second Alpha Centauri, but not for the graphics. It needs a better AI (there are half-decent fan-mods, but old game's scripting limitations hamstring what can be done by players). Would be great if ecology and subversive/social mechanics were overhauled with more depth.
Kingdoms/Iron Plague also needs an improved AI, both for computer opponents and player's units, but it could use a graphic update as well.
Dragon Commander needs a proper remake because it had massive potential.
Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.² and Omikron suffer from being made in early 3D and so need to be remade on a modern engine, with combat and physics re-created from scratch.
Fatman's Tongue had style I liked, but piss-poor execution made it mostly unplayable, so I'd be happy to see anything new made with it.

Not having modern graphics isn't a problem, so there's no need to fix it.

Actual bugs should be fixed, but that's so obvious that it really shouldn't even be said. Of course many bugs won't be fixed because companies stop caring at some point, but that's another discussion altogether.

Anyway, I would like to see Simon the Sorcerer 3 without D, in other words, the original 2D graphics that it was originally designed for. There have been some attempts to make fan game versions with 2D graphics, but none has ever been completed as far as I know.
low rated

any modern game with good ai? we get all these new ai learning tech and still they cant implement good ai for games
Civilization IV runs in Gambryo. Yes, the Bethesda engine. While this allows a lot of versatility, it also comes with absurd limitations and an absurd amount of technical debt.

I feel that the game would fare better in an engine that doesn't have hooks for physics checks or whatever; I somehow doubt those are going to assist in calculating a simple trade economy.

Interstate 76 was based on the Mechwarrior 2 engine. Cars are not mechs. While it's an incredible game that embraced the lowpoly look, it's also a nightmare to run and deal with. Plus the draw distance is crushingly low. A reimplimentation might be possible, if not for black box voodoo code.

Treasure Adventure Game is full of charm, but controls like a broken ankle and is built on something that was basically an advanced Flash engine is my understanding.

The Creatures Series are advanced artificial life & "artificial DNA" games which have a dreamlike atmosphere and delightful creatures to raise. They also run about as well as banging rocks together; you can; but there are better ways to do so and it's going to take a lot of work to do so. Certainly, OpenC2E exists, but it's also a resurrection of a project that last breathed over a decade ago.

Close Combat: Relying on the Windows Registry instead of simple resource configuration files was a mistake. But that's what you get when publishing under Microsoft. This one stupid issue prevents the games from running on modern "alternate" systems.

System Shock: While the Sekhmet engine does help it run in modern environments, the game does still control like a computer workstation on wheels. And there's really so much that can be done to fix that while still calling is System Shock 1.

X-Com Apocalypse: Much like Interstate 76 or Creatures, it runs off an old engine that in this case, is a hybrid hellengine. While OpenApoc exists, it's in a pre-alpha state. And sure, running it in Dosbox is definitely an option, but it's a game that wasn't made for that.

Orkhepaj: yeah alpha centauri would be nice to get , it is too old for me and only tried it out for a half hour :I
I truly love it, but I already played it back when it was new, and still have a 1280×1024 screen where it displays really fine. To me it is much better than any other Civilization game, mostly due the the serious approach to politics. This is a game that deserves a "mature" label much more than any Witcher or other gritty game like that ;)

On the other hand I understand how trying it for the first time today it could be really hard to get into it, mostly due to the graphics and the interface. And the awful video compression.

Needn't be bleeding edge of artificial genius, just able to build infrastructure properly and feign competence in the leader's specialization, at least. AI's behavior and diplomacy should be more consistent with leader's personality, faction priorities and in-game relationship history as well. Nothing like all too frequent cases like Peacekeepers declaring vendetta when you've been nothing but nice to them when they're supposed to be, well, peace-loving, University being extremely bad at research even with their bonus to it, or Morgan refusing a mutually beneficent trade when he's supposed to be insanely greedy and pro-commerce.
