viperfdl: One of the worst games I've ever played. Whoever decided to use auto-leveling enemies should be kicked in the nuts. And the rest of the game isn't really any better IMO.
Of course you're right. After years, though, of learning to understand mods, to follow modders who know what they're doing, etc., I have modded the game to hell and back and finally gotten myself an engrossing, fun game out of it.
FCOM for deleveling the enemies. Plus great new content. Makes the world exciting and unpredictable and dangerous to explore.
Oblivion XP for player leveling. No more level-skills-by-using-them. Instead, old fashioned do-stuff-get-xp. Level up, spend the xp. Beautiful.
Tejon's mods for character creation. Your race, class, birthsign - it all matters a lot. No jack-of-all-trades anybody can be all things anymore. Your initial choices determine your potentialities and your playstyle.
TheNiceOne's mods to make sense of the economy (can't get filthy rich anymore), the map (mark dungeons as "done"), sigil stones, the timescale, potion weights, and more.
Those form the base, and a dozen or two other mods round it out. I'm very happy with the result and so I am finally playing long enough to attack the main quest and the mage's guild.
Keep in mind, though, that I am right now eating a Hillsboro Farms Yard O' Beef Summer Sausage, so, you know, there's no accounting for taste. Your mileage may vary.
Cheers.
misteryo: Dragon Age Origins Have it here but haven't had time to play it yet.
misteryo: Baldur's Gate I and II (Modded all together, wide-screened, etc. etc., character created, game started. I
will finish it this time, I swear!)
You can do it! ;-)
This is the first game my wife played through (some 200+ hours). That was, of course, before we had children...
I recommend DA:O. I think it's a lot of fun. I just avoid the romances. Blech.
And perhaps this summer will be the summer I finally finish Baldur's Gate. Perhaps.
