tinyE: Anyone here play card games as in Hoyle type stuff? I like having them around to play when I'm watching football or just half dozing but it seems like they haven't made any good pc versions for a while.

The newest ones on Steam are evidently atrocious.
I have both Hoyle Card Games and Hoyle Board Games from '00-'01 on CD, but I mostly played the latter as a teenager since I was horrible at card games. It'd be cool if I could install and play either of them again. Now that I'm much older, I have a feeling I'd enjoy them more.

dtgreene: That was me.

I'd still like to know about the character customization (or lack thereof) and the growth system. (Also, do you create your party, or is your party (like in DQ3 or DQ9) or does your party consist of characters you meet along the way (like every other DQ game, except 1 for obvious reasons)?)

RangerSolo: You can't really make your own character like a normal RPG. You start out as the main character of the story and as you travel around meet new characters to join you. You have a skill tree for all characters and can choose which path to level up in first. The kicker is some of the skills require a lot of points to get them. The one thing I don't like is not being able to switch weapons in battle. Sometimes I forget to swap before going to places and some weapons just don't have the skill bonus on attacking that I need. Other than that certain costumes are fun to look at when they are wearing. Won't spoil the fun here. But once you see and what some of the anime is capable of doing, you'll get it.
Does the game at least let you play as a female character, or is that not an option?

(It sounds like, from your description, that they followed DQ8 rather than DQ7, and made it worse by getting rid of the option to switch weapons during battle.)
I played an unhealthy amount of Clash Royale tonight. I seem to be improving, as I'm winning more often and generally feeling more comfortable with my deck. Most of my current mainstays - Valkyrie, Goblins, Baby Dragon, Arrows. and Prince - had been regulars in my deck for a while. I think the turning point came when I introduced my latest acquisitions, the Witch and especially the Balloon. Just before I was able to add the Balloon earlier today, I tried the Goblin Barrel several times with practically no success. Whenever I want to experiment with other cards, I'll probably swap out my Witch. She's been serving me well, though, so I plan on using her quite often.

Trying to finish up some games I started a while ago, like Candle and Tyranny. I keep getting impressed by the visual art of Candle, it's so colorful and interesting to look at. The puzzles are fun too, but it's the game world that is the main attraction with that game. In Tyranny I do my best to keep to the character profile I've created in my head, but when your option is 'doing bad thing 1' and 'doing bad thing 2', it sometimes feels like my choices don't really matter ... for myself as a gamer that is. Although I've decided to focus more on console gaming in the future, I'll still play and finish the PC games I do have, but I won't be buying any new ones for a while. So my new plan is to adress my GOG backlog in a more serious way. I'm great at starting games, less good at finishing them. Not because the games are bad in any way, but because I get distracted by the new games that come out.

first play thru of Vampires: the Masquerade: bloodlines ... .enjoying it tremendously

Walking Dead tell tale game, full playthru of all the series/seasons.

routine is i play some hrs of VtM, then crank up some deliciously depressing Walking Dead the next day, switch back to WD the next day and so on. almost done with both

I almost started up Fallout yesterday after watching the Beast start his first play thru of Divinity Original Sin EE. that char generation screen made me nostalgic for a good rpg strategy game. i havent played it since it came out eons ago, dont remember squat.
Finished the very last level of Mario Odyssey. That...was surprisingly easier than the other final levels in the 3D Mario games I've played (the one in 3D World was brutal compared to this). Eh, the reward for completing it was certainly something, so I'll give it that. Outside of getting the rest of the moons (almost at 950 at the moment) and the purple coins, I'm pretty much done with this game.

Now to actually move on to something else for the time being, and actually post more often in the Games Finished thread I made this year.

*Installs Dead Cells*

A few hours in (made it to The Clock Tower), and I'm already loving it. It controls pretty well, the combat is fast-paced and tense, it's beautiful to look at, and feels pretty polished for the current state it's in. The difficulty (outside of some portions of Fog Fjord and The Clock Tower) isn't really too bad overall.

dtgreene: Out of curiosity, have you captured both types of piranha plant yet?
Only captured the poison piranha plant so far.

Well, I can forget about my Clash Royale winning streak. I went from 1800 trophies to about 1590 in just under a day. Needless to say, it's quite humbling to look this bush league. Time for the long and painful hike back up to the summit.
Crusader Kings Complete. I have Crusader Kings 2 on Steam, and absolutely loved it. Right up until they started releasing all the DLCs, which broke my games. I'd be 40 or 50 hours into a game, and a new DLC would break the balance. What really annoyed me was the DLC content was added to the game, but you couldn't use it without paying. That put me off the game. Pony up the cash so you can play the game as we move the goalposts on you.

I digress. The original Crusader Kings is everything I want without the DLC bs. Plus it's easy to add your own events and mod existing ones.
I either totally suck at MK 9 or Meleena was a bad choice. :P
I'm going to start Pool of Radiance once again.

See ya in a couple of months.

Clash Royale has been a real roller coaster (which, I suppose, is no surprise). I went from 1,800 trophies to just under 1,600 in my previous update, and I just spent most of my day hovering between 1,600 and 1,700. In my latest turn of events, I managed to reach 1,900 for the first time. I'm excited to push even higher, but I'm sure I could choke in any of my next few games. I just need to take everything in stride.
I'm progressing trough the main quest line, but since I reached a point that prevents me from completing a few side quests, I think I'll revert to a previous save and clean up my tasks first. Besides, I should really get a few better pieces of equipment, since I have become filthy rich! Aslo, I'm ready form my return to Na Pali in Unreal. I excpected the last levels to be tougher, but the main campaign was great. Also, the impressive "Extreme High End" texture mod really enhances the graphic quality of such an old (2017) game and app
I really need to step away from Clash Royale. 1,900+ trophies to 1,677 is just brutal.

I worked with her a little last night. She's good but her distance moves are a little complicated and her up close stuff is almost non existent.

Right now I'm working with Sektor, and other that the fact that he's kind of stupid looking, he's great.
