I'm currently playing some of Rebel Galaxy, Factorio or ETS2 a day depending on which one I feel like playing the most. Factorio is the one I have progressed the least in, simply because it is a hugely complex game. ETS2 I got when it came out in 2012 and it is still a great simulator - the only annoying thing is SCS only releasing the France expansion on steam. *I frown on you, SCS!* I got Rebel Galaxy free and it is actually quite good.
Gobliiins

I had some spare time and no access to my PC - after an hour or so I managed to run the game on Android. Never tried ScummVM for Android. Controls are clunky, of course, especially if you need to perform some quick actions, but the game is playable if you're desperate enough ;)

Dying is fun in this game, indeed, however it's a bit annoying that number of mistakes are limited and "health points" are not restored in the next levels. In consequence, further levels are restarted with lower and lower limits with negative impact on game flow...
Commandos - Behind Enemy Lines. This game is harder than I remeber it. Or maybe I was more patient back then. :)

I try to play that at least once a year. Simply a classic.

I agree, perfect game, still very enjoyable after almost 20 years. Didn't like the 2nd one as much though, and the 3rd game is supposed to be really bad (only played the demo of that one).
Diablo II - Lord of Destruction with latest patch (1.14D). No mods or anything fan-made. Got to play until either Path of Exile 3.0 get release or DLC for Grim Dawn or Underrail.

Almost decade since my vanilla playthrough. Wow. Played all classes but never made to the end with Barbarian, that %$&$%^# Duriel was too nasty for him. Managed to take him down with DEF merc and lot of potions (with Shift button pressed) and teleports. Hope to kick down Baal with him.

So far items are weak. Both blue and yellow. Resistances are hard to raise even with intense gambling and grind. I'm lvl24 in Act3 and only got poisons res on 15, anything else on 0. This is bad....

Deus Ex - Conspiracy
on PS2 because I was curious. And something to wait for GMDX v9.0 release (July 8 if nothing bad happen).
Models and animations are different (running animation is like from Gothic 1-2 games, wow). Shooting weird but doable.
If you can make it working with antialiasing then you're good to go.

Finished my Assassin run of Age of Decadence - and will definitely do another run as either full on fighter or complete talker at some future date. But fired up Dragon's Dogma last night and have been completely sucked into it. So looks like I already found what I'm going to be concentrating on for the next few weeks.
Warlords Battlecry 3... such an amazing game!

I can't get that thing to look very good on my monitor. It's either stretched or too small. It would be okay if I could play it with the black bars just so long as it was in scale, but I can't seem to manage that.
About a quarter or fifth way through New Vegas I decided I needed to play something else. It turns out it was a bit too much Fallout all at once right after FO3, after all. So I gave Homeworld 1 (remastered) a good shot. I've played through most of the campaign. It's not bad, but, frankly, I can't see why this game is so revered. It looks and sounds nice enough, but I wouldn't exactly call it one of the best RTSs ever. *shrug* I also took a break from that to play...

Owlboy. I finally booted up that game today, and it's quite fun so far. It has very well done pixel art and some excellent sound design and music. My Mac mini is getting some playtime love again. ;)

I haven't played Homeworld yet (even though owning the retail versions for well over a decade) so I can't agree or object to your opinion...

...but what do you consider as the best RTS games out there? Just to get some kind of idea what one likes and what is out there. Of course tastes differ, like whether Starcraft is better than Total Annihilation or vice versa (I personally like Starcraft more).

Works fine here (black bars on the sides).

Do you get those black bars if you change your Windows desktop resolution to 1024x768? (I think that is the default resolution that game runs in too.) What GPU do you have?

Either you need to change some setting in the graphics drivers settings, or it might be even your monitor has some "stretch" option enabled (at least HDTVs have options like these, stretching 4:3 images to 16:9). Changing your Windows desktop resolution to a 4:3 resolution (like 1024x768) should reveal that.

Also note that with some graphics drivers, you get the aspect ratio setting only if your desktop is in a 4:3 resolution (like 1024x768). I recall that on one AMD graphics laptop I had, I didn't find that option until I changed the desktop resolution.

Main reason I said that was because sure it may have been the first fully 3D RTS, but the gameplay itself is really nothing all that special. It feels very much like standard genre fare.

Started Odallus: The Dark Call. Don't know what I was thinking, because this game doesn't mess around.
D(r)agon's Dogma - Dark Arisen

After finishing Witcher 3 GotY (too big for his own good, massive slog) I had choice to resume DD or start new game with DRMfree Two Worlds 2 with PotFF add-on. I chose DD because I need to pass time till new GMDX 9.0 get release.
I dropped it after beating that dragon from the intro (Grigori) and left massive hole in the city capitol. That's what you get for breaking the curse of Groundhog Dragon Day. Checked guide - only need to clear dungeon
Played as Fighter till lvl6? to gain feat that increase carry weight, most vital for all classes. My primal class is Ranger which got like one useful ranged skill that you spam nonstop and 2 useful melee skills that you activate sometimes. Gets repetitive fast but hey, it's Japanese game so they are repetitive.

NOW I remember why I dropped the game.
While AI is somewhat serviceable compared to most videogames - casting AI is abysmal. Enchanting your weapons to deal damage for enemy? Forget. About. It. Healing pawns with 25% HP left? Nah. I know it have deeper system behavior but come the hell on!
To deal with this problem I changed my class to the mage, right before the finale. Then grind for spells. Which is cool because spells in DD are amazing! I played videogames for long, long time but DD casting classes are amazing!
Two-handed pawn is terrible, constantly get unconscious and shout „tis was easy like pie", „barely worth the effort" which sounds funny considering the fact that I need to constantly rush and get him up.
Not even mages need my help as much as him.
