Descent Freespace
Since I finished Wing Commander Prophecy + Secret missions earlier, I wanted another space combat "sim" whenever I don't feel like playing Daggerfall or Team Fortress 2. So I've started playing Freespace. I have played Freespace for some missions earlier already many years ago with the retail version, but I started it from the beginning again now.
Playing it in the hardest difficulty. Compared to WC: Prophecy, the controls feel slow and "lazy", it is much harder to stay on enemy's tail and constantly hit them with your guns in Freespace than in WC:P, the enemies also seem to squirm more than in WC:P. Heck, I had to replay the third tutorial mission like 5 times before I was able to destroy all the drones in time (the secret was to use all your missiles to destroy drones faster, no time to only shoot them), and my hull integrity was down to like 10% or so at that point as the enemies really liked to collide into me when they were targeting me.
Also even though the game has an afterburner, apparently it can't be used quite similarly to try to stay on the tail of an enemy as in Wing Commander games, where dogfighting was quite often about the precise and correct usage of the afterburner (which I really liked in Wing Commander games by the way).
I hope I don't get as frustrated with this game as I did with the last missions of Tie Fighter... At the beginning your Freespace fighter doesn't even seem to have any shield yet, so it feels a bit like playing Tie Fighter in a Tie Fighter or Tie Bomber, ie. every enemy hit to your ship brings you closer to death. That's annoying. I hope to get fast to the missions where you finally get recharging shields, I hated those Tie Fighter/Bomber missions in SW: Tie Fighter (or the fact that if you flew a Tie Advanced, you would still die from one single enemy missile).
