A Golden Wake

Quite underwhelming compared to other Wadjet Eye titles. By no means bad thus far.

Enebias: DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold. It's like a very addictive drug. :P

Also, I'm playing Descent -and loving it. I wish I had a joystick, but mouse and keyboard work fine, too, after rebinding almost all the keys!

CMOT70: Regarding Descent, i'm guessing you've already looked at the "d1x-rebirth" Open GL port...but just in-case you haven't then try it, you won't regret it. Playing at 1920*1200 is just so much better than 320*240. There are other alternatives, but i came to prefer rebirth because it simply ports the graphics without adding anything.

bela555: Yeah you should install it :)

CMOT70: That's what i'm playing at the moment as well, but i'm playing full specialized spell caster which seems to be the games "easy mode" as i'm now an unstoppable juggernaut and i haven't even got to the other continent yet, plus it looks like i'm going to hit the level cap long before the end.
But still a very enjoyable game and one that is better written than most of it's direct competition- like Oblivion for example.
Yeah, I hit the level cap way to early aswell. I dont remember the story, but the game kept me entertained for dozens of hours so it has to be at least pretty decent. ^^
Now I REALLY need to install it again. xD

I knew about the source port, but thank you for reminding me: since you named it, I decided to use it... and the difference is definitely huge. The game still plays exactly the same, yet the improved resolution, framerate and loading times are more than welcome.
Besides, some enemies (especially the red ones) were starting to "camouflage" themselves on walls of the same color due to the very low res, so I guess it was time to upgrade!
Serious Sam 3 and Smite :)
Now that I have finished The Elder Scrolls: Arena (phew!), I am trying out Daggerfall. I am still in the starting dungeon, but so far it feels more enjoyable to play, largely due to better graphics frankly, but also because I was able to change the controls to WASD (I hated having to use the arrow keys in Arena). Feeling of actually being there is stronger.

Too bad the automap feels harder to understand now, I can't really navigate with it much (to decide where to go next etc.), as it is in several layers. Fortunately it is easier to navigate in the dungeons even without a map than in Arena, as the dungeons aren't quite as labyrinthine.

We'll see how this holds out... I played Arena as a mage, this time I decided to play as a Spellsword so that I can fight better but also have access to spells.
I am about to finish King's bounty: the legend.
Still undecided what to play next, something different i think.

Famous last words...

When you exit the starting dungeon and start to explore other (non-main-quest) dungeons, you'll understand what I mean.
Started Bound By Flame (Woo! random unannounced Linux ports!). It feels a lot like a Overlord and Kingdoms of Amalur mix. So far it is great.

Yeah could be, I already got the first quest from the mage guild.

I meant to ask in the TES subforum: how long is Daggerfall compared to Arena, if the target is to finish something that could be considered as a main campaign, if there is one? It seems there are much more towns and such in Daggerfall (even though there were insanely many also in Arena), but it isn't like one needs to visit most of them anyway.

In Arena after the starting dungeon, I think you needed to visit 17 dungeons to finish the main campaign (2 dungeons per a staff of chaos piece, 8 pieces, and then the last dungeon to beat the baddie and free the king), and then whatever artifact quests you want to finish. In the end I finished 6 artifact quests:
- 4x Oghnum Infini-something to get my skill points up
- 1x the mage staff quest (a seemingly unbreakable weapon for my mage which works against all enemies)
- 1x Necromancer Amulet (to get extra -9 Armor Rating)

There were two dungeons per artifact, so that was 12 extra dungeons. These were usually quite fast to beat though, I mostly just ran through them, trying to find the exit to next level or the map/artifact. At best I think it took me as little as 30 minutes to get an artifact, ie. beating two dungeons.

Cool to see people still playing these for their first time. As far as I remember, the second one is longer and is harder since there are so many bugs preventing the game from completing it.

Finished my replay of GTA: SA yesterday. Man, that could be such a great game if it wasn't for the super shitty characters, boring missions and story. It's a huge improvement over the previous two, but the things I mentioned ruin it.

Starting my POP replay marathon today after I get back from work. Sands of time here I come.

If that happens, then I guess I'll stop playing there and move on (to Morrowind). TES is one series I was always meant to play but never did, For shits and giggles I decided to start it from the very beginning, something I wouldn't do to many other (older) CRPG series like Ultima (I've earlier in my life finished Ultima 2 and 3 though), Wizardry, Might&Magic (I started from M&M 6) etc.

Even though I have the GOG version of Arena and Daggerfall, I am not playing them, but this instead because I believe it has more (optional unofficial) fixes in it:

http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN

I don't recall now which unofficial fixes I applied to it, I think there was a tutorial somewhere which are the ones most should choose. Hopefully it is at least relatively free of game-breaking bugs.

I encountered some bugs in Arena, but nothing game-breaking which I couldn't handle. Sometimes the game crashed, sometimes I got stuck to a raised platform or a wall, oh and that chick didn't give me the last quest in a dream (but I could start and finish that quest anyway even without her) etc.

One possible bug (or is it intentional?) I've seen in Daggerfall that some town people walk on a spot, ie. there's a walking animation but they don't move anywhere. I presume they should be roaming the streets, like in Arena? Not a biggie though, either way.

Also, while I didn't like the melee weapon controls in Arena (moving your mouse from side to side or up/down), it somehow feels even worse in Daggerfall. Quite often my mouse movements are not registered as attacks, I have to very carefully move the mouse from the very side of the screen to the other side, only then it might work. Very rarely I am able to make any other attacks but side-to-side slashes, not sure if it matters though as that's what I always used in Arena.

Last irritating thing: if I try to run Daggerfall in a window, mouse doesn't seem to work properly. Arena worked fine windowed. I have to play Daggerfall fullscreen.

I've found some of the gamebreaking bugs in Daggerfall (and almost dropped my plalythrough because of that) but I saved a lot to a different slots, that saved me. Do that and you should do just fine ;)
Wars of Napoleon.

Great game, but it's the Napoleon campaign of 1805-1815 with 7 day turns. That's over 500 turns for 10 years of a grand campaign with over a dozen European countries battling it out. It makes my brain hurt wondering how long a single campaign is going to take to finish.
