Star Wars Battlefront. Though only for the pew-pew sounds of the blasters.
I was playing Team Fortress 2 when the year changed. So no, we didn't go outside to drink booze and get fireworks shot into our eyes, we stayed home.
I just woke up.

Is it 2016 already?

Shit.

No, it 2026 man, where you been, we have been worried!
I'm afraid it was Crossy Road. XD
Was playing Risen when midnight happened, everyone on TV was shouting happy new year like there's no more 2015 and I was like "SHUT UP I'm trying to finish a quest here".

Hunter65536: Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, got it in the recent sale on that platform.

Edit: And it doesn't work anymore, gets stuck at saving part after loading screen is done. Well it was nice to complete 1 mission. :P
This is why I don't buy Ubi on PC anymore. Too many crap-outs.

My last of 2015 was Labyrinthine Dreams. It hit some topics I was dealing with which really got me thinking and evaluating my life and decisions. It's rare that a game does that -- especially an RPG Maker game.

I probably won't play a game in 2016 for a few days, but it'll likely be Dragon Age: Inquisition.
I played The Witcher 2 at night but only for about 10 minutes before I concluded it's just too late for it and I can't focus. Then in the morning I spent longer time on Paint it Back but I was not playing, only advising. Now I am going to start 2016 with bang and some modern ultra game and am going to start Wolfenstein 3D.
Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Minecraft.

I loaded a creative mode world to test some things with the RFTools mod about an hour after midnight.
Was hoping it would be Hide the Sausage but, uh, yeah. Wasn't that one.

It will end up being either Terraria or Zombie Shooter 2.
Infinite Space III: Sea of Stars
Ground Control. I finally got back to the point where I stopped playing when it was first out.

happened a few years ago (what ..... almost a decade) When NFS High Stakes was released, I played it, while waiting for the new year to arrive, that I got motion sickness playing the game :P
