RedFireGaming: Anyone else use 4k Video Downloader? It's a desktop app, not a browser extension, but the quality is superb and it can pretty easily download multiple videos.
It's currently my choice.

Until earlier this year, bYoutubeD (Bulk Youtube Downloader) worked for me, and i'd download several or dozens of videos at once, usually in a playlist or related.

Seems not to work anymore ([i]was discontinued in 2016?[/]i) So i'm looking for a good option myself still.

Terminal application is a bonus in my book. Also, doesn't only work for Youtube, but Vimeo, Twitch, and quite a few others as well.

The sites Savido and OnlineVideoConverter. I'd rather not use an addon that basically has access to everything I do on my browser.

It's great.
You can download entire playlists, and you can choose which language subtitles to download, if the video has several to choose from, etc.

ChrisPC's Free VideoTube Downloader.

It's always worked a treat for me, it's a standalone program that auto-queues a file if you copy a link, lets you chose whichever quality the video supported and I just like the interface.

On PC is always IDM. On mobile is dentex youtube downloader on apknite.

Haven't had cause to download anything off YouTube in what feels like an eternity, but when I did I used SaveTube.

youtube-dl combined with a self-written telegram-bot, bashscript and owncloud :-)

I can either send my telegram-Bot "youtube <url>" and it starts the download on my router (ubuntu) and publishs the video on my owncloud (occ rescan). After that, my telegram-Bot sends me a message, that the download is available.

I also have a "download.txt" on my owncloud, which is polled by a cronjob every 15min. If it changes (md5hash), it downloads all the URLs from that file (youtube-dl "archive"-function prevents double downloads). I get a notification via telegram when its done (with the amount of videos actually downloaded)

My owncloud is synced with my Desktop-PC, so i can view the videos there. Needless to say, that my Owncloud is backup'ed every few days.

As many have said, youtube-dl.exe is the one that gives you greatest control, and can be used for many front-ends out there or programs that support it like mpv.exe.

If I just want to watch a youTube clip, I find I get much better performance and control using mpv.exe with youtube-dl.exe. I've even created an assistant program for them, that grabs the URL from your clipboard or you can paste into an input etc, and it's a ready reference for all the mpv.exe shortcut keys. That's generally how I watch all the videos at GOG.

P.S. If anyone wants a copy of my MPV Assistant program, just sing out and I will upload to GitHub.
