I'm primary looking for some Firefox extension to download videos from youtube but there are so many options.

What is the one you are using and you would recommend? Please also explain "why".

Have you tried anything else to compare or was it your first and only choice?
Winx Youtube downloader. So far I don't have any problems with it.

If you want a no frills page this site does it for most every vid, with no watermarks added to vids.....no disallowing some vids for various reasons....etc.

(The only "bad" thing it does is when you enter a link it opens an ad site but you can blacklist it or block the site from opening other pages in your browser.) The site above just needs you to put in the youtube link and right click and save as on the box of the vid/audio quality type you want that shows up below after a few moments.

Anyone else use 4k Video Downloader? It's a desktop app, not a browser extension, but the quality is superb and it can pretty easily download multiple videos.

I use a command line tool called youtube-dl - it allows a lot of tinkering, if you want to, but you can just paste a YT link and it will download a video in the best available quality. It also works with various other sites.
en.savefrom.net

copy and paste link

profit
I use FlashGot add-on (in Pale Moon and Firefox ESR). This works well on other sites with video/audio streams. Most of youtube's videos now only have the audio and video streams/tracks separated, so I mux them together in an mkv file with MKVToolNix.

That site I mentioned combined the audio and video, but it only allows webm and mp4 downloads, in case you wanted to save a bit of time.

Yeah, I know there are many sites and apps that do the same thing, but I've used FlashGot for so many years, and not only on youtube, so it works perfectly for me. Besides that, when I want to save something from youtube, in most cases, it's only the audio track that I'm interested in.

Not a problem....

Also to any who are interested: The above allows one to either download just audio or video as well.

I only use youtube-dl, that has the huge benefit of being a command line tool.
Me uses XDM
