I've made many solid friendships through online gaming. Some have even become real life friendships. Online gaming can be good for humanity too.

Progress in all it's varied forms usually means negatives as well as positives. But to focus on just the negatives and be blind to the positives is not very healthy or realistic.

I tend to enjoy games that try and replicate a multiplayer (online) experience, but I have played a few MP (online) games in the past.

I still remember going into my first MP match on Sniper Elite 2 and being told -- by an "adult" using some very colorful language -- to k___ myself and various members of my family because I didn't know all the map points of ingress and egress.

But then there was RDR 1 (online) where I was being hassled by some young teen-age miscreants, got one to think about his actions, and talked back-and-forth (via RDR) for years -- helping him sort out life goals and prepare for university.

And Dragon's Dogma had a great item trading / pawn trading community via DD's asynchronous online element.

And lastly I played hundreds and hundreds of hours of Heros & Generals!

So, online MP is a strange beast that I certainly don't actively look to engage in, but... once-in-awhile I'll take a chance... and sometimes I don't regret it.

But what has online MP done for humanity?

Moreso than angering thousands (or potentially millions) or been a 21st Century babysitter? Mainly wasted our time. ha. ;) But I'm willing to entertain the idea that there's an MP game out there for everyone... just not every MP game is for everyone.
