Has been gaming since the 70's.

- Old Timer:
Has been gaming since the 80's.

- Nerdy Gamer:
Also loves comics, Star Trek, gadgets and other nerdy stuff.

Completely sucks at any type of game, but has too much fun to give a crap.

- The Pro:
You see them and die at the exact same time.

- The ADD Gamer:
When given an important quest, always gets distracted along the way by something else: "Ooooh a cave!!".

- The Farmer:
Sits in one spot in a game and kills zombies for 12 hours straight, or until zombies drop a shiny weapon or other shiny item.

- The Speedrunner:
Tries to beat games as fast as possible. Often seen playing the same game over and over again, restarting at the most minor mistake or RNG failure.

- The Scientist:
Loves to experiment. Will often load a save, try to do something, and reload/quit afterwards just to see what will happen. Enjoys figuring out how the game works, and what the game mechanics are. Will sometimes play a game in unusual ways just to see how the game behaves, sometimes using cheats or intentional deaths.

- The Hardware Enthusiast:
Someone who spends so much time buying, benchmarking & tinkering with high-end hardware components and arguing over AMD/Nvidia or AMD/Intel brands in online tech forums, they never find the time to play any actual games they bought the stuff for in the first place.

- The Collector:
Spends time buying and discussing games, but upon opening a game, can no longer be assed to play the thing.

- The Vampire:

I'm the Disgruntled RTS-er.

Late 90s and early 2000s are the peak of gaming for me, and I curse everything and everyone responsible for the decline of the RTS genre (and dumbifying gaming in general).
Apart from the online two, all of them at some point.
A couple others that you misse:

- The Speedrunner
Tries to beat the game as fast as possible. Often seen playing the same game over and over again, reseting at the most minor mistake or RNG failure (like reseting if they don't get a P-bag drop at the first possible moment). (Note that there are a few different types of speedrunners; some focus on one game for years, some instead move on after getting a decent time in a game.)

- The Scientist
Loves to experiment. Will often load a save, try to do something, and reload/quit afterwords just to see what will happen. Enjoys figuring out how the game works, and what the game mechanics are. Will sometimes play the game in unusual ways just to see how the game behaves (sometimes using cheats or intentional deaths).

I would definitely fall into the Scientist category.
Probably "Old Timer" which feels weird as early 40s isn't remotely old... How about adding:-

- The Hardware Enthusiast
(Someone who spends so much time buying, benchmarking & tinkering with high-end hardware components and arguing over AMD/nVidia or AMD/Intel brands in online tech forums, they never find the time to play any actual games they bought the stuff for in the first place...)

I'm pretty sure user forgot his password since he pass here on the way to another forum. :P
Honestly, I don't think I fit into one category, and I'm gonna guess that not every "gamer" does either. While I've been gaming since the 80s, I've been the Hardcore Gamer, the Noob, the Gamer, the Old Timer, the Casual 1 and 2, etc.

Games and gaming heavily depends on my mood, if I'm playing a certain type, I can also turn into the Farmer/Grinder as well. So it's kind of hard to shoehorn me into just one archetype, as my playstyle and preferences change and adapt based on what I'm playing.

-AdApt-: - The OCD Gamer
(MUST explore every possible corner of a map, collect everything and gain all achievements).
I guess I am this except for the achievements, which I just don't care about. But I do need to explore every single place, collect all items, talk to everybody and try every possible line of dialogue.

It would be it, I think. I like many different types of games. I play a lot. I don't think I have a talent for games. Rather I would say I have some traits and perks. And 'one more turn' syndrome.
I'm a mongrel.
I'm definately nerdy, and unfortunately a noob. I used to not really care about the latter, but recently it's been frustrating me to the point of almost not wanting to play anything any more :P By your clasification gaming since the mid-90s isn't enough to make me an "old timer" but it's still a long time to suck at something :D
