It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I know I know I know, forever (and I used to be religious about it to) the almost 100% school of thought was ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS keep your video drivers up to date.

That was then. Just two three years ago you got what, maybe 7 updates in a year (Nvidia)? maybe 10 on a busy year? Now it "seems" like I'm seeing an announcement of an update every month AT LEAST. Sometimes more than one.

Can they all be that tested and vetted that quickly?

Because I (and a LOT of Fallout 4 players) got bit by the old ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS keep your video drivers up to date when we did just that only to have the newest and greatest BORK OUR GAME. It became unplayable (you couldn't access your pip boy. Try playing ANY FALLOUT without accessing your PIP-Boy. Well, you could "access" it, you just couldn't see it LOL)

So, all of us Nvidia Fallout 4 players had to regress to old drivers.

Since then, I've been wary. And since then it seems like I've been seeing pop-ups for new updates more an more and more often. Soooooooooooooooooooo

I've stopped updating. I've decided I'm no longer going to update until something happens that causes me to update.

So now, I guess I just want all of you to tell me why this is a mistake. LOL. Another reason I haven't been updating is that the stupid Nvidia Experience (that I get my updates from and used to update with) now asks you to log in. Now I know I could just go to the website and download it myself and install it myself and that's just what I did last time but it is a lot more steps and was a lot easier with the Nvidia Experience.

So anyway, just I dunno, I dunno if I'm trying to be talked back into being religious about updating or I'm looking for verification that waiting until seeing a need is ok too. Guess I'm just asking for some opinions on here because you guys are just so smart about this stuff (and I'm so stupid LOL).

Thanks for any info.
Unless you have the latest graphics card I doubt you need to update all that often.. unless you use that 'experience' thing I guess.

I never used the Experience because it, well... never worked for me.

That aside, I don't update my drivers until I find I have an issue or until I'm at least 3 or 4 versions back. I've avoided a lot of issues that way.

It's not important to keep video drivers on the bleeding edge, unless you have the newest hardware.

The only time I like to make sure i'm up to date is before and after the big Windows 10 upgrades when old drivers can and do cause issues.
I never used Nvidia Experience because...it was fucking useless. What do I need for this bloated piece of software, anyway?

But anyway, I can't use Nvida Experience because I'm on Linux and eyeing an AMD card, whose drivers are quite a treat these days, no terrible bloatware required.
i love a good bork

Fairfox: Scary moo-mo stuffages. I don't touch drivers becaaause I don't kno what Imma doin', General Lee. Naaazin' has borked or gone 'Hey, Fairfox, Imma strugglin' an' drowin' in mah own inadequacies here!'

Altho! teh compy fan is all rrrrRRrrrrRRRRRRR nao. Probs not video driver related...
A rattling fan is bad because when it stops it does not cool anymore and if it was cooling the graphics card, you probably have less than a minute before it burns. In a laptop you should get it repaired as soon as possible as those tend to have just a single fan, I think, cooling everything. Cost me just a tad over €30 to have the shop fix it for me.

I try to always wait at least a few days after a new driver has been relased in case I want/need them when on Windows. On Linux Mint I let them get installed when the updater pushes them. So far always invisible change or improvement only.

I'm a terrible driver in video games. I'm playing Saboteur right now and at this right I'll end up killing more civillians then the nazis.

It's all relative.

Sounds to be like you're a great driver in Carmageddon.

I had a laugh riot driving in that game. But I eventually got the hang of it and got to be fairly decent at it. Ton of fun though.
I never understood the reason for updating your videodrivers, I never updated my screwdrivers either.
