wodmarach: The thing is people seem to think that machiavelli only wrote the prince and forget his work on democracy. Realism was taken on because it was effective and supported the status quo but there are hints he doesn't really believe most of his writing and that some of it is purely a way to insult the Borgias etc and their excesses without it being said in the open.
Interesting... I should probably take some time to reread The Prince and read his other stuff (Democracy, and anything else?)

I'm currently reading End of the Spear by Steve Saint. It's mainly about Operation Auca when 5 Christian missionaries (including the author's father) were killed by the Waodani people of Ecuador in 1956 and the author's life spent living among his father's murderers while trying to coming to terms with his death. It's really good so far.

I'm reading a brazillian science fiction book called Fábulas do Tempo e da Eternidade, by Cristina Lasaitis.

I even got my copy autographed. :D

So far, a Good book.

Currently reading A Song of Ice and Fire Book Three: A Storm of Swords. I never got around to reading the series (or anything from Martin for that matter) and I'm finding it highly enjoyable. Also, by my girlfriend's command, I'm listening to The Hunger Games as an audiobook on the trips to and from work. Pretty decent fiction there as well so far. Been on a fantasy/sci-fi kick lately. Probably head back to literature when I get up to date with George R.R. Martin's series.

Gears of War: Anvil Gate which I'm currently enjoying thoroughly. Also reading Under the Dome by Stephen king. It's a beast of a novel but it's good so far.

His work on democracy and republics can be found in his "Discourses on Livy" where he goes into detail about how he feels a republic should be founded so it can succed

I'm currently reading "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain. Mr. Twain apparently did not think too highly of the people and the sociopolitical situation of the time. It is pretty funny nonetheless.

Yes - I like it. Like any Nightside books - fast pace, easy read with the usual cast of characters.

It continues directly from The Good, The Bad and The Uncanny so read that first if you haven't.

Pretty good so far but goddamn keeping track of who's who in the Vanger family is a bit of a pain in the ass, even with the family tree
