Tizzysawr: I'd choose either Guards, Guards!, Eric, Small Gods or Mort as an introductory discworld book.
Or if you want one that isn't too tangled up on what could be called the (old) main storylines, get The Wee Free Men.
Small gods is an aquired taste i'd go with the truth or going postal for a relatively stand alone first book

Well, Small Gods was the second pratchett book I read, and I found it easy to get through, much unlike my first (The Last Continent) which, like most of the Rincewind books (Perhaps except for Eric) is pretty heavy.

the problem with rincewind is just how long he's been around he works best when he has the patrician, the librarian or Carrot to bounce off of (the last hero is a good example of this)

In Her Name: Omnibus Edition. I have been power reading it for 12 hours today and finally took a break to see what's going on in the outside internet world. It's one of the hardest to put down scifi/fantasy books I've ever read.

Earlier this week I just finished the Alexander of Terra series which is quite fun if you're just looking for some non serious entertaining scifi.

I'm currently absorbed in Nourishing Traditions. I never expected to read a story about cats mutated to death in a cook book but now I know better. Great recipes too.

i am basically reading this and that, i read some of howards conan stories, and some livecraft storties, now john le carres espionage novels

It's one of those books. I had to stop frequently for WTF breaks. A few years ago I had begun reading a Sanskrit printing but eventually gave up when I realized it makes as little sense as it does in English.

I do frequently bring up the guy kicking a mountain to death. Because that is just awesome.

Book three of the Earthsea Trilogy.

After I'm finished that I think I'll read the 'Foundation' series by Arthur C. Clarke.. or maybe re-read 'Eragon', 'Eldest' and 'Brisingr' before 'Inheritance' (by Christopher Paolini) is released.
Foundation series is by Asimov, not Clarke. ;)

I'm currently reading Catcher in the Rye and The Many-Colored Land.

The latter is the first book in the Saga of Pliocene Exile by Julian May. I've read it several times, but had a hankering to go through it again. About half way through the first book (mentioned above). I love this series.

Titanium: A Dance with Dragons, the latest in the Song of Ice and fire (Game of thrones) series by George R. R. Martin.

I'm about halfway through, and thoroughly enjoying every page of it.
This is what I'm reading right now. About 2/3 of the way through it but vacation is over and back to work so no telling when I'll finish.

Game of Thrones. Heard about the HBO series and had heard about the book before. Found all four of them being sold in a local library so bought me the first just to find out what the hoopla was about. I haven't even read a fifth of it yet and Ive already decided to buy the rest. It's quite good.

So far I've read Guards! Guards! and Reaper Man.
The 4 next books I have are: Sourcery, Witches abroad, Night watch and Men at arms.
