So, there's been recently talk of some games that are huge, like over 100 gigabytes. (The new Baldur's Gate 3 being one example.) As far as I can tell, these games are, at worst, poor, and at best quite good.

Now, I just happened to think of a couple old games that are actually terrible, like the Famicom game whose title translates to Stargazers, or the NES adaptation of Ultima 5. (ET and Superman 64 are other games that are often placed in this category, as is Big Rigs.) These games are *so* bad that it's funny just *how* bad they are, with many of them getting very basic things wrong. (Like how, in Stargazers, no weapon is usually better than using a weapon, but there's no way to unequip a weapon once you get one.) Thing is, the games I am aware of that fit in this category are generally old enough that their size isn't even close to the size of some of these modern behemoths.

So, my question is: What are the biggest (in terms of file size) kuso games? Or, considering only games that are pretty much universally considered terrible, which ones are the biggest?

(Note: If a game is unironically considered good by some players, or even if it's reasonably playable, then it doesn't fit the kusoge category, even if it's one of your most disliked games. For example, I don't put games like Ultima 7, Final Fantasy 7, or Baldur's Gate 1 in this category, even though I found those games to not be that good.)

I don't understand why download size or disk space matters in this context?
Does it add insult to injury when you wasted your lifetime AND cluttered up your harddisk?

Looked up reviews for that game on DuckDuckGo, and the first two, from IGN and (IIRC) PCGamer, gave good scores (8.5/10 and 94/100), so that game is definitely not kuso territory.

(Gollum might be, however.) I'm just curious what games happen to share these two, likely unrelated, characteristics.

I actually tried the Sega Megadrive version on an emulator once. It seemed to be a decent (not great) game of its type, though the biggest problem is that, if you die, you lose all your accumulated power-ups. As a result, it's basically impossible to get through the game unless you can do so in one life. The only thing that smells of kuso here is the intro's English translation.

Also, that intro is only in the Megadrive version; the arcade version (which, I believe, is the one you can buy on GOG) doesn't have that intro.

I'm only familiar with the Megadrive version... and yes, I was referring specifically to the rather infamous English translation of the game's intro. Although I'm somewhat biased against it in the first place as I've always been more of a fan of top scrolling shooters like MUSHA, which has nothing kuso going on.

Or I reject the concept that something gets so bad it "buffer underruns" and becomes good -- "kuso" you are calling it? -- except as a learning experience for what not to do (like Castlevania 2).

Except that Castlevania 2 is actually my favorite of the early (pre-SOTN) Castlevanias.

Fight Club is so bad that not only does it have Limp Bizkit in the soundtrack, you can also play as Fred Durst.

Anthem has an install size of 51 GB if you want to consider that a big, shitty game.
